I've finally gotten the chance to read the article by Paul Levy analyzing Bush and our collective psychosis. Thank you very much for sending the link. This article is surely right on -- in so far as it goes. Given that the illness is a collective psychosis, however, Levy provides precious little insight into its collective causes, which most assuredly do not originate with Bush and his cohort, as, for instance, we have discussed this disease over and over throughout the past 30 years and the American symptomology goes back with great verisimilitude to the early colonial era. As Levy somewhat recognizes, to the degree that a given person has participated in society, to the same degree is he/she culpable: anyone who has complied with higher enculturation; not sustained a state of underemployment; become a professional; pursued a career; been namable as an architect, engineer, doctor has not carried out significant work in opposition to the pathogenesis. While those who have set these life patterns aside at some point in their lives have positioned themselves inwardly for such significant work -- whether they take the opportunity or not. Henry Nash Smith's Virgin Land (Harvard, 1950) is a rich source on the colonial origins (and a very accurate grand metaphor for the frame of the required inner counter-work). He says in the first paragraph of his preface:
I use the words [myth and symbol] to designate larger or smaller units of the same kind of thing, namely an intellectual construction that fuses concept and emotion into an image. The myths and symbols with which I deal have the further characteristic of being collective representations rather than the work of a single mind. I do not mean to raise the question whether such products of the imagination accurately reflect empirical fact. They exist on a different plane. But as I have tried to show, they sometimes exert a decided influence on practical affairs.
Thomas Hart Benton, James Fennimore Cooper, William Gilpin, Thoreau, Daniel Boone, aspects of Whitman, and on and on up to the present day wherein the Anonymous author of Imperial Hubris exhibits all the same thematic determinants in his intelligence assessments and strategic orientations. Recognizing that it is a collective psychosis and naming it -- though egophrenia doesn't seem an apt term for a collective illness -- certainly would be helpful, but it couldn't possibly lead to the conscious integration Levy predicts. Jung recognized and named the Nazi pathogenesis (which Levy recognizes to have been an earlier fulmination of the same disease plaguing us today) and lectured widely on the phenomenon before it reached culmination -- to little effect. And Jung knew there would be little effect of his efforts, as he explained in Memories, Dreams, and Reflections. He continued these lectures knowing there would be little effect because that was the right thing to do and because he could see nothing else to do. If Jung couldn't produce widespread recognition and insight, what is to suggest that such effects are likely today? But even if such recognition and insight were to develop today, the outcome would be small, I believe. Far more difficult than that. Mere understanding is by no means adequate. The archetypal constellation -- which individuals can identify with and thus ride into positions of power, the involved role attributions being collectively conferred -- not only automatically yields its collective projections (such as those discussed by Levy), but is born of specific catalytic factors. THIS archetypal constellation, rather than THAT archetypal constellation. The heuristic archetypes Jung described are but a tiny illustrative sampling which never appear in pure form in concrete cases; they illustrate an idealized model. Talk of the shadow, processes of projective identification, introjection of split-off autonomous complexes as demonic possession, and all the rest is certainly to explicate the Jungian heuristic model, but it is all the specifics of the present concrete case that need to be made collectively conscious and integrated, not merely the general model. Levy offers no insight regarding such specifics. And he also does not point out -- dwell upon is perhaps more accurate -- the fact that those in vehement opposition to those identified with the prevailing archetypal constellation are no less engaged in projective identification than those they vehemently oppose: the inside and the outside of the wall forming the induction funnel. Somewhat analogous to the downward and upward cascade processes. Specific contents of the opposition's projective identification, no less urgently, need recognition, naming, and integration -- at the very least. Particular patterns of proprioceptive and perceptive failure, collectively induced -- and, contrary to Levy, organically registered in the quantum aspects of brain function by alterations of autogenic brain discharge activity -- are most responsible for the failure in conscious awareness and need to be identified, rectified on a moment to moment basis, and thus integrated. Looking at the difficulties and limited efficacy of Jungian analysis in individual cases gives some sense of the magnitude of such a project on the level of a population corpus. Generic terms like ego maniac, power hunger, messianic complex, repetition compulsion are certainly true enough, in so far as they go. But what real use are they? Just an intoning of the elements of the generic heuristic model. What is needed is detailed genuine insight into the larger or smaller units of the same kind of thing Smith begins to explore -- and appropriate changes in day-to-day, moment-to-moment modes of engagement with the social lifeworld and with the natural surround. Only deautomatization, inner counter-work, can rhythm entrain sufficiently to, for instance, disengage individually and collectively from processes of repetition compulsion. Rhythm entrainment to the larger cosmic enfold, rather then a social amnion radically severed from its natural context. But as the Weimar bronze age (nudity and nature worship) illustrates, a back to nature movement is hardly adequate (though likely would be helpful) and may not even be absolutely required, as the fundamentals at issue exist on a different plane, to again quote Smith. There are precious few people actually attempting anything remotely like this. Back in the early-'70s, the response I got from EveryLiana was: This is too intense; I want a normal relationship. And so it goes.
People have no idea whatsoever as to the actual distributed controlling variables on the current global situation; if they are told, they regard the statement as tantamount to schizophrenic word-salad. It can be said with a high degree of confidence that we are dead center of the extremely narrow window of opportunity right at this very moment, April Fool's Day, 2005. Such a window opens only as a significant very, very small minority of the population corpus gets an inkling; it is closed by march of events precluding adequate action. That closing comes well before cusp-surface formation on failed phase transition. The window is half closed already and not a single significant initiative has been undertaken anywhere on this planet -- largely because the fundamental distributed controlling variables are not at all understood. And the opportunity presented within the window is very far from what people think it is, as the situation is very far from what they take it to be. People assess opportunity cost on the basis of what they think, not what they don't think; just as people always do what they can do, not what they can't do. It is what people think they don't think, however, that is important in determining what they can and cannot do. Britain's Astronomer Royal, Cambridge Professor Martin Rees, says, I think the odds are no better than fifty-fifty that our present civilization on Earth will survive to the end of the present century (Our Final Hour, Basic Books, 2003, p. 8). Anthropologist, publisher, and writer, Richard Grossinger, in providing The Wahhabi Critique of Darwinian Materialism (Embryos, Galaxies, and Sentient Beings, North Atlantic, 2003), also repeatedly refers to the next one-hundred years as being the period wherein the fate of humanity will be decided. Niall Ferguson, Professor of History at Harvard, Oxford, and Stanford, places humanity on a new Lusitania waiting to be torpedoed. Apocalypse When? he asks (Sinking Globalization, Foreign Affairs, March-April 2005). The assessments of Rees and Ferguson are based largely on consensus science and history officially embraced: both of which likely give rise to wildly optimistic perspectives. Grossinger's view is less consensus oriented, but appears to give rise to a similar assessment. At this late date, from my non-consensus science and unofficial history, however, the opportunity presented by the window appears to be to limit COLLECTIVE species self-immolation to mere MASS suicide: nothing more edifying than that. How can I have a high degree of confidence concerning timing and duration of this window? Because of -- and here comes the word-salad -- juxtaposition of evolution of events in the field of quantum cryptology with march of discovery, and response thereto, concerning the super state of matter-energy. The physicists who figured out, at IBM or wherever, how to transform m-logically-valued photons into x-number of diagonal-to-rectilinear-mode 2-logically-valued-bit phase-angle-of-quantum-spin-state photons using polarization filters (separating the noise-preferred from the actual data-anathema being the primary MO of post-WWI physics) should have received the Nobel Peace Prize, not Andrei Sakharov, for these were the physicists most responsible for fall of the USSR -- the two events forming a tightly wed synchronicity on at least half-a-dozen levels. Obsolescence of nuclear weapons, of course, had been achieved a decade earlier, thus setting up the transition in planetary bulk phases. Einstein's spooky action at a distance does not exist because there is no such distance. Teleportation of Bose-Einstein-condensate entanglement (nowadays, also Fermion-condensate entanglement) does not exist because superluminal velocities quite literally overturn the space through which their conveyors supposedly travel: teleportation presupposes a space to teleport (among other insupportable presuppositions). Since the late-'60s/early-'70s, it has been understood how people could levitate, walk through walls, visit other worlds through the sun or by catching a comet. And that understanding is being evermore verified in the lab on a daily basis as a matter of course. A whole book on molecular-scale, non-Gaussian (i.e., therefore non-statistical thermodynamics) Heisenberg uncertainty was published by Johns Hopkins University Press as early as 1969 (James Isaacs and John Lamb, Complementarity in Biology: Quantization of Molecular Motion) -- suggesting, by clear implication, the identity transparency which is biological supersolidity (another example of postmodernist language use: calling the thing by the name of its opposite). When I summarized import of this book on retainer for a California mogul of new-age products, he psychologically short-circuited. Being John Malkovitch was tame by comparison. The index of falsification (of nature) involved in quantum-cryptology/quantum-computing (quantum in both cases should here be placed in quotes) is one measure of the collective psychological incapacity to integrate import of discoveries relative to the super state of matter-energy, and a prefigurative indicator of the enormous momentum propelling toward COLLECTIVE species self-immolation. People have gotten the idea that there are many similarities -- culturally, politically, economically, monetarily, diplomatically, militarily, socially, sexually, revolutionary action-wise -- between the present global situation and that prevailing in the years prior to WWI (see, for instance, Ferguson's article noted above); they don't, however, see that the actual distributed controlling variables have to do, not with those mentioned, but with deeper dimensions common to these two periods, and going back in explicit form to the 1820s. Almost two-hundred years later, and several failed attempts at phase transitions -- over and over with regard to the very same THEMATIC issues -- there should be no surprise at magnitude of what has been constellated and what WILL transpire. It was not for no reason that Einstein, subsequent to processing his first wife's great intuition as Special Relativity, rapidly -- after booting this wife along with the actual implications of her great intuition (her other banished child) -- set about creating General Relativity as a means to subvert Planck's quantum-of-action and the fact that non-polarization-filtered photons overturn the space through which they supposedly travel (sometimes, we now know, supposedly getting there before they supposedly leave: m-logically-valued understanding has so transcended the 2-logically-valued language that virtually every word must now be placed in quotes: written mathematical notation does not help with this problem; that fact is also a prefiguration of the magnitude of things to come). And when General Relativity didn't exorcise the Cabalistic scofflaw, then all of Einstein's efforts were put into an early attempt at GUTs, an activity of rabbinical dissimulation taken up by others which continues to this day (not only in the various sub-disciplines of physics, but -- via psychological projection -- culturally, politically, economically, monetarily, diplomatically, militarily, socially, sexually, counter-revolutionary action-wise). Whole institutes are created and endowed these days for the sole purpose of establishing and maintaining the perimeters. Transforming a transfinite superposition into the appearance of a finite sequence -- as does quantum cryptography under impress of collective psychodynamic projective identification -- is precisely COLLECTIVE species self-immolation mirrored in Hodge self-anti-self duality (a state of collective autoimmune reactivity, on superconductant DNA, most explicitly embodied in well-established biotechnology and burgeoning synthetic biology). Index-raising in the Maxwell tensor is not exactly equivalent to an expansion of consciousness! When, in 1998, an m-logically-valued perspective on quantum (no quotes here) computing was tendered to the public policy arm of Hewlett-Packard, it was summarily rejected: not surprising Carly arrived the following year! How many fractal dimensions does the strange attractor, self-immolation, possess? Indeed, physical survival of the species, on the trajectory it's headed, may be the worst form of self-immolation.
Have trouble, did you, with the claim regarding people levitating, walking through walls? Notice I used the word could, not can. These possibilities/actualities altogether ceased to exist on this planet in the years immediately after WWII -- no matter what the purported level of spiritual accomplishment. Didn't get supermind before then; very unlikely you did afterwards. This, clearly, was particularly the case in Tibet, of course, regardless of Richard Gere's very late interest, because of what was transpiring in those years in portions of the USSR adjacent to Sinkiang and Tibet (today, with barely-used, interconnecting, 8-lane superhighways running hither and yon in Yunnan, following upon blanket coverage by phased-array radar and associated electron gyro resonances and electron temperature enhancements, this is well below a mere moot point). Superconductant levitation is ruled out; supersolid, identity-transparent, cross-phase, spatial translation is disallowed: in all high-temperature cases, not only those biological. Since the Polish m-logically-valued scofflaw is on the base state of rDzogs-chen (internal logic of Being-in-itself, not of mere Being, or even of from-being-to-becoming altogether), Tibet may well figure as large in coming events (such coming not being Atiyogic in Nature) as Poland did in the last planetary warfare disjuncture. There are now radiative-environmental constraints in place limiting efficacy of the program to raise human consciousness so as to save the human species from itself (not to mention other species in the same boat in the now-constraining altered radiation environment: asymptomatic mad deer, mad elk, mad cows mad proteins not receiving the requisite temporal-curl assistance at spatial folding). The window on that program to save the human species was actually closed before we were born; this has been going on for a long time, you know.

The non-commutativity involved in this quantum logic is that there are orders of infinitude in routes from eternity to linear-time, while there is only one route back from linear-time to eternity: that through the bardo realms, where you are likely to loop the loop over many iterations (incarnations), bound by nanofactors like a Lilliput giant. The wave-function doesn't collapse; the reference space decomposes and recomposes, posing no steric hindrance to those PLACED thereon. But human brain has been so spooked by these distributed controlling variables on the current global situation, it has set about mass producing nanofactors! A real linear-time is objective, you see, and all there is to time.
I am truly sorry to be found so offensive, but the simple fact is that I have never imagined quantum cryptography a field distinct from epidemiology, and have long held that this lack of distinction is of the utmost importance to those wishing to gain genuine insight into, and an accurate assessment of, the present global circumstance. The coherent quadripolar waves generated by superconductant DNA are polarized, just like the photons transmitted in sequence as cipher key by laser along optical fibers. In our conception, this is of the utmost significance to issues in immunology, the study of neurological compartmentalization, light-sound interactions and fractal entrapment in cytoskeleton, at (identity-transparent structured-water/water) membrane interfaces, and on other phase boundaries inside and beyond the cell. I began reading into cryptanalysis in 1968; it simply wasn't possible to effectively analyze data related to the Viet Cong (political) Infrastructure (i.e., in current parlance, terrorist network) without knowing something about fundamentals in this field. It was apparent to us at the time that the VCI exhibited properties of a self-organizing system as well as what could be regarded quantum behaviors likely derivative of the animistic modes of comprehension endemic to the region. We were also reading into the molecular biology of the genome at Strategic Research and Analysis, MACV-HQ, in 1968. This was the time Watson's popular account of the discovery of DNA's crystallographic structure came out, and half a dozen of the SRA analysts read that book and discussed parallels with structural dynamics of the VCI. The sundries shop on the ground floor near the restricted SI area (Sensitive Intelligence) had several copies of Watson's book on the rotating metal rack. Sorry once again, this time for stretching your stereotypes. Also significant is the fact that, upon arrival at SRA, I was only several months out of the two years of very intensive training provided to Special Forces Medics. Given how decisively immunology is infiltrated by warfare metaphors, similes, and analogies, it is hardly surprising that study of the VCI should, in turn, have become infected by these bio-modes of thought. Such modes are, of course, a potent example of projective identification operating on the collective level: not only word use, not only the assembly-line analogy, the NYC addressing and toll collection receptor schemes (which is really weird, man), but the examples are legion, even given how viruses are portrayed as exactly like spherical submersible mines, this portrait having developed with onset, fulmination, and recovery from WWII. The macrophage, the killer T cell, the dendritic cell patrol, search, hunt down foreign proteins -- in spite of the fact that all of this purposeful activity is the result of random statistical thermodynamic behavior, many of the systems involved being non-Gaussian (i.e., not possibly statistical in nature). I mean, Hello! and Good Lord: the whole thing has to be regarded as something of a joke. When in multiple recurrent hallway conversations at the psychosomatic medicine congress in Kyoto I argued during summer of 1977 (before the IDing of AIDS) that a discrete vector was not required to collapse the immune system, the notion of quadripolar waves was at the forefront of my awareness (and actually diagrammed in the published version of the presented paper), while all the VCI cryptanalytic experience lay there as a precipitant. Discrete vector or no discrete vector: that was the argument. Quantum complementarity. In 1967, immediately following surgery for a testicle wound, I did not have post-surgical shock, any form of malaria (hemolytic or no) or remittent fever, tsutsugamushi (the endemic scrub typhus), five-day or seven-day fever, dandy fever (dengue), cat fever, as I was in the field (for those in the know), Katayama fever (no elevated IgE or IgG), so on; I had intermittent delirium, a very high FOUO (packed in ice), and a WBC count so high no one could believe it. What the doctors didn't know: rage, a sustained intense surpassing battlefield rage completely contained internally, suddenly dissipated by an act of kindness. What is rage, speaking to the neuron? How can this psychological state have such massive effects on the immune system, on the behavior of cells? And what of the biological effects of the emotional impact of an act of kindness in midst of war? The pi-stacks associated with the nucleotide staircases of DNA and RNA molecules form a screen grid of polarization filters at the tip of a frequency funnel. M-logically-valued superposed photons (the vehicle currency of the EM field) impinge upon the given molecule which polarizes the free energy into four modes and apportions each to its appropriate nucleotide-pair class. During transcriptive helix-coil transition (rate, rate-of-rate, and rate-of-rate-of-rate-governed by temporal operators associated with the free energy input), superconductant pi-electron gas core transduces, amplifies, and radiates acoustically-modified gravity-wave modes (the coherent quadripolar waves phase-encoded to the nucleotide pair sequence). Much of this does not occur in real-number time, 3-space, or whole-integer dimensions -- to include the radiating coherent modes putting temporal curl upon the spatial curl involved in morphogenetic governance of protein-folding processes. And, most importantly, the m-logically-valued superposition conveyed by impinging photons sets the terms of reference for all subsidiaries decomposed there from (by temporal operators, filtering, polarizations, Fourier transforms, or whatever): not only are m-valued variables involved, but also m-logically-valued propositions on m-valued variables. The whole idea of using signature proteins to delineate a simply-connected viral family tree, for instance, is underwhelming in the extreme, not only given the known m-valued relationship between codon sequences and activated proteins, but also because the radiated coherent waves -- normative and antihomeostatically altered -- cryptographically convey biologically-active information capable of reassorting genomes and the m-relations between given codon sequences and given proteins (a kind of reverse-reverse-engineering not conducted in a Faraday cage in a secure lab). This is not just about environmental field phenomena, but also intraorganismic and intracellular. Even if the repository of H1N1 was in the belly of a goose, it may not have been gradually adapted by pig, horse, alley cat, or waxwing, but quite rapidly via the accumulated temporal anomalies (associated with increased copying errors) induced during the massive autogenic brain discharges sustained by so many young people simultaneously engaged in the pathogenic collective and cooperative critical-state behavior called mass warfare. Goose-with-stuffing for dinner? Christmas, 1917, was it?
Conventions of the scientific method and peer review process are potent inducers of mass warfare. Clinging to the parochial security blanket of the paradigm -- which these conventions formalize and enormously magnify coziness of -- is based upon the false tacit assumption that nature is self-identical, the same-as-itself, and therefore that there can be only one correct description of it. The Aristotelian-Baconian A or not-A. Conflicting claims to be in possession of the one-and-only correct description, of course, is an integral aspect of the existential process by which onset of mass warfare transpires. Being Against Method, one can understand, is a natural response to codification of the notion of a paradigm -- particularly for one who has been directly involved in a world war. Under the m-valued logics of the m-valued Schrödinger wave-function, however, nature cannot be self-identical, the same-as-itself; it must be a superconducting mirror which reflects with verisimilitude anything projected upon it (even if of a contradictory nature under the 2-valued order of m-valued logics). One kind of organic brain disease, a kind scientists seem to have the Boolean diathesis for, establishes a major disconnect: the downloading m-logically-valued perceptual-proprioceptual BitTorrent is polarized into binary-digit fragments distributed to the neuron swarm, but upon uploading to conscious awareness, a very slow process, particularly under the diathesis in question, the m-logically-valued source file transmitted on the given object (objective or subjective) is never m-holographically (only 2-holo) reconstituted (the Matrix involved here is m-orders of logical-value distributed on n-nested-orders of representation space by operator-time: compressed to m-logically-valued reference space [MVRS] as the base state of Tzog-chen, the superconducting mirror). The universal covering (MVRS) cannot be established over the swarm due to P2P failure (and associated codec failure) induced by Pharma: glutamaturgic neuronal etching associated with the prescriptive enculturation so cozy with review processes and formalization of methods. P2P-codec failure in BitTorrent spontaneous localization-fusion -- electro-chemically fixed as paradigm-inflexibility identification state -- precipitating mass warfare, planet Earth.
People are spooked, and rightfully so. So spooked, they are out there paying fees transforming global tourism via Idealist.com and several dozen others (as partially listed by Newsweek [the Pope issue: 11-18 April 2005] which forgot to mention Idealist.com and, say, I-to-I or Travel-to-Teach, because these are not vectoring people to activities sponsored/condoned by the multilaterals) into an altruistic affair of teaching English in rural settings, digging drainage ditches without benefit of a transit, staffing orphanages and youth halls already well-equipped with ping-pong tables, and so on (except those less-than-altruistic tourists from Westchester County wanting USD36,000 superlux weekends and those from the Hamptons of Longed Giland wanting USD8-million anything-you-could-possibly-desire six-month global private-jetted excursions: this liberally underwritten by the USA's unique ability to freely print US$s for international circulation under the rubric of libability financing, as rationalized by the likes of monetary system historian Milton Friedman and used by the likes of one-time money-market speculator George Soros). But, as is only to be expected, all those idealistic-altruistic tourists are volunteering for activities that underwrite and sustain the institutional framework responsible for creating the global monoculture which contemporary billionaire philanthropists and the giant foundations of an earlier era's robber barons do everything they can to impose, and also responsible for the accelerating hairy-scary hurry-scurry history-making circumstances spooking out these idealists-altruists, just as the left-Hollywood talent multi-millionaires -- not the supreme grand-acquisitor moguls, the Wal-Mart DVD and bookstore chain literary standards setters -- get their tax deductions, when they can pull themselves away from the superlux hotels they own, by giving to causes supported by the institutional framework they purport to oppose (but which underwrites their paychecks-percentages-investments): conflict of interest relative to My planet right or wrong! Like Dee Hock promised: he could transform the global banking-monetary system in the people's interest according to the principles of chaoplexity in a few short years for a few measly millions simply by enlisting scads of volunteers (sort of like, or even involving, the P2P way of undercutting emerging market labor pools): for that promise, he was temporarily adopted by some left-Hollywooders, altruistic rock stars, and even a few ex-Yippies. Yet, the pattern of things sure to come, as well as their whys and wherefores, in spite of and because of all of the above, is clearly projected on the globalized wayang kulit screen. Boo!
Common sense is a social construct; else there is something mighty strange going on in the universe. That sense which is common is, obviously, consensuated, an outcome of shared learning and habituation -- or it is consensuation plus something more. It is not inherently given in natural nature as a universally applicable principle, for many things apparently given in nature are not intuitive as physicists like to say -- intuitive as used by physicists being equivalent to that which is commonsensical (this intuitive having nothing to do with employment of the intuition function of Jungian psychology). Physicists now know quite thoroughly, to the greatest degree of accuracy ever achieved, and generally acknowledge, that cause-and-effect, though intuitive, is not natural to nature in the very small and possibly also in the very large, thus not a universally applicable principle -- though most physicists retain the notion that cause-and-effect holds good, as commonsense knows, at the middle scale levels apropos of everyday human life and history. This bifurcation implies that nature has no universally applicable connecting principle, which is mighty strange, or is the result of commonsense being a social construct. It is easy to illustrate this strangeness to oneself. Pick up the glass sitting on the table before you and move it to another position on the table. This injunctive method is not so much derivative of experimental science as of a mathematics mature enough to have outgrown the notions of constructability, proof, and truth-value: Draw a distinction! Commonsense says that the effect, i.e., glass moving, was caused by your hand picking it up and repositioning it, though physicists know many of the constituents of the moved-glass and the mover-hand do not obey cause-and-effect injunctions (suggesting that there may be something deeper in mathematics than even the injunctive method can reveal). Now all sorts of arguments could be made to the effect that commonsensical cause-and-effect is illusion, Maya (not-That), a social construct, that there is no persisting self to initiate the intent to move objects and no actual constant objects to be moved, and so on -- but no such argument has any effect on the common sense that cause-and-effect are instrumental in movement of the glass that was moved. Paradoxically, thermodynamics, the quintessential statistical non-cause-and-effect science, makes this especially clear by arguing, in the case where the glass is accidentally knocked off the table and breaks upon hitting the floor, that we never see it spontaneously jump back to the tabletop and reassemble itself: that would involve, among other things, reversal of linear-time. Intuitively then, commonsensically, history must be the cause-and-effect affair we have always thought it is, and professional academic historians all assume it to be -- at least such historians in the post-WWII period. Since the glass does not jump up off the floor, we can be pretty certain there is a linear-time and that this type of time is irreversible. Moreover, that being the case, the universe is mighty strange, having no universally applicable connecting principle.
Paper after paper and book after book are written about such concerns: most of which pretty much, in the last section or the final chapter, put their sinecure to commonsense, thus insisting that nature is mighty strange. I have no intent here to delve deeply into the involved matters. I would just point out that, if the broken glass lying on the floor did spontaneously jump back to the tabletop and reassemble itself, thus participating in a reversal of linear-time, we would not be able to see that event transpire, because the glass in time reversal would be made of anti-matter which we are not equipped to see by normal perception. Anti-matter is matter in time reversal. Not to mention how entanglement, annihilation, and much else might be involved in relocating such a fallen glass moving in time reversal as anti-matter. The physicists have been aware of this for a long time, of course, though they don't go out of their way to point it out in context of discourse on such concerns: they must have their reasons! Why can middle-scale-level matter objects exist, and not middle-scale-level anti-matter objects? They must have their reasons! Were some such class of anti-matter objects and events the case, however, then it is quite possible that nature is not so strange as to have no universally applicable connecting principle (whatever such a principle might be). This bit of a discourse has been something like the argument Hugh Everett used to justify employment of the von Neumann formalism to demonstrate that, though the universes may be dissociated-schizophrenic, not only can we not directly know that, neither can any universe of the universes. Suffice it to say, because of considerations such as these and many similar factors involving orders of imaginary time; nested sets of conservation laws; relativity of absolute limiting rates, rates of rates, and rates of rates of rates; connective mass-energy (with its own unique units: why use the black-box terms missing mass and dark energy?); configurational mass-energy (with its own unique units: why use the black-box terms missing mass and dark energy?); existence of m-valued logics; the presupposition that all physical constants are not only m-valued, but m-logically-valued (involving not only new kinds of number, but new notions concerning the very notion of number); properties of critical states in collective and cooperative behaviors, to include infinitude in correlation lengths (the cosmological base-state in any possible universe in relative-state, meaning all finites are ontologically and logically after transfinites, as Cabalistic thought has always maintained, and the principle of relative-state, i.e., entanglement-rightly-understood, absolutely demands); the applicability of these principles-properties to DNA and severe local storms in the Earth's atmosphere; and much more, I have for decades not presumed the common sense assumptions underlying academic history -- and have based no near-to-mid-term expectations thereupon. To me, there are no emergent properties; events demerge, higher order of logical-value to lower order of logical-value, generic to particular, in Vedic fashion (not exactly collective to individual; not exactly nonlocal to local, not exactly collapse of the wave-function, not exactly decomposition of the supersymmetry space). I do not believe history is existential (except to common sense), but that it is one result of ontological demergence (not exactly probabilistic decoherence). John A. Wheeler had a serious case of intimation of this Vedic fashion (even if he eventually managed to throw off the infection); otherwise his coauthored mega-tome on gravitation would not have been partitioned as it was with Indic quotations.
Being silenced at the Georgetown Thanksgiving dinner table of Ned Beech (Run Silent, Run Deep) with, If you have no policy alternative to Containment in 1946, then you have no basis upon which to be critical of a superlative diplomat and historian. Another slice of turkey -- white meat -- another spoonful of mashed potatoes, thinking: Is that the hundredth time I've heard that, or the hundred-and-first? Didn't say that, of course, having learned early the lesson run silent, run deep. I've always had alternatives, even detailed alternatives; problem is, the fundamental assumptions have perpetually been different, sufficiently at variance there has been no basis for discussion. These people are lost back there, so covered in dust, how is it even possible to see them? That dust is thicker today than ever before! Thanksgiving 1981: no cognitive figure to ground. I've written extensively about how my mind became so screwed up as to have such perceptions, but I don’t believe I've ever put the exact occasions into an early childhood short list:

Biking to the beach, dodging jelly fish in the surf mornings while the C-119s fly overhead in waves, who can understand such things?
Like incidents, or those tantamount, pile up right through neuron etchings, compulsory lower enculturation, adolescent hormone and glutamate flood, high school indoctrination, initial phases of higher enculturation. Early on, cognitive dissonance and ethical disjunction is all the greater because of access to the base library. Full into glutamate flood, I am instructed on feats of the great explorers, the Navigator, the Circumambulator, the Discoverer. But my school text tells me nothing of the rape of Calicut (an open Malabar free-trade port for centuries until European incursion) by one of these earliest of the great Western swashbucklers (wanting to establish a monopoly on calico); I, discoverer, discovered an account of that in the base library, written by some greasy slicked-back native, undoubtedly educated in the country mothering burden of the white man. What is a textbook, anyway? A ball-peen hammer to the mind? Striving always to be no aposematic -- but I know full well if they wish to aver bouleversement best they shut down library access. Or insert a gene making it possible to read only textbooks -- or impossible to register anything contradicting contents of textbooks. This could not be completely arranged by search-engine information management -- keywords being no cognitive pus tract. MemoryClear software was developed by the company which had earlier achieved a similar breakthrough relative to pimples. When, later yet, ThoughtFirm burst forth from zit funding, the projected social benison was boisterously ballyhooed.
I think the big events may very well begin as a trans-Himalayan affair. The U.S. win-every-battle-to-lose-the-war claimed successes in Afghanistan and Iraq, against the Russian western landboard and in Central Asia once Russian landlorded, not a win-win strategy, existentially converge the march of cause-to-effect events on China's backdoor, her most sensitive historical geopolitical vulnerability. Oil is an existential factor of forces, and on the level of common sense, existentially speaking, an essence one certainly cannot discount, however much traders would like to do so. Less existential, but still existentially speaking, is the cognitive fact that, regardless of Chinese impetus to recoup ALL that was lost during the 19th century and to incorporate as a Greater China, and presence of U.S. dissimulations through any and all open doors, no sane person would voluntarily choose to live under communist Confucian capitalism: the best emergent property one could ever hope for from that is a Lee-Kwan-Yew universe. A lot of people on the planet will oppose this possible-world logic, whatever the collective costs incurred. But all of this is claptrap because nature (and, hence, historical processes carried out in Her context) is not so strange as to have no universally applicable connecting principle (whatever that principle might be). Demergent in midst of all this existential forcing are many factors-not-of-forces auguring for a trans-Himalayan affair. Quang Tzu-ish or not, here we are going to get into psychology of the collective (often disparaged as ethno-psychiatry) which I ThoughtFirm believe in. Vedic notions of time and history are not those of academic historians, who, following Collingwood and Karl Popper, disparage substantialism as misplaced concreteness, a logical fallacy under the 2-valued order of m-valued logics -- the whole of Advaita Vedanta being an explication of all-perspectives-equal m-valued logics. Debussy's last ballet, an abysmal failure, as all informed music critics know, was written the way it was written precisely because after years of study of point-set mosaic harmonies (if not their topologies, as Takemitsu spent a composer's lifetime contemplating), finally, he got to the Adwaitic core: no mere dispensing with developmental time, tension and its release, but affirmation of demergence to point-events (under higher orders of imaginary temporal operators: hard-hierarchy stacked chords decomposed to soft-impression arpeggios: ask Schenker and Zuckerkandl). Desputations amongst argufiers, each with their own argot, WWI followed soon thereafter. The controlling demergent point-event on world-line from Treaty of Versailles to onset of WWII was (not Hitler's failure as an artist, or the whole of avant-garde art as collective unconscious compensatory relation to Hitler's failure as an artist) rigorous explication of m-valued POLISH logics (and resultant epidemic outbreak of Polish jokes). This was the deep-structure thematic-orchestration reason for the big events of that collective occasion of experience beginning with Poland. (Wording like this is good -- try, for ease, substituting collective-occasion-of-experience -- because such wording makes the reader pay attention -- something beneficial, whatever one's philosophy.) But as the Centrencephalic Safety-Discharge Mechanism's thematic orchestration frequently demonstrates, ordinality of linear-time sequence is often violated. If Hitler's late-comer fascism (Mussolini having first brought the idea to realization, in the period while Taisho democracy movement and Weimar democracy still flourished) threw itself into a final solution to this most-fundamental-possible challenge to Western civilization, i.e., m-valued logics, by psychological displacement to the Jewish question, then one could not be surprised if a similar displacement were to take place today to the Islamic question. M-valued logics displaced to the Jewish question, yet, still, Poland is first to fall (indication of the degree of collective regression involved). Base-state of Tzog-chen displaced to the Islamic question, yet, still, the big events open with a trans-Himalayan affair.
As Tim Parks reminds us in his review article on Mussolini biographies (The Illusionist, New York Review of Books, April 7, 2005, p. 55), the fascio in fascism refers to a bundle of things tied together -- sticks, brush, brambles, mostly. Artist Mariyo Yagi's rope shock involved emotional impact of recognition of that which is signified by the braided threads of the Shinto rope she found in an old jar, and which is almost miraculously not hanging over entrance to Yasukuni shrine, with its Korean stone icon (which the Chinese have so much psychological trouble with; and implicitly related to which was the rope-shock-insight Yagi-san carried into a number of major sculptural negative-space pieces on DNA, negative space being an artistic way of speaking to the counterspace of Psychetic-as-opposed-to-Hylêlistic data). Shinto take on the quantum-wave properties of DNA, mind you! Still think this has nothing to do with what is commonly regarded as history? I mean, you just have to learn something about how the artistic mind works if you want to understand anything about historical causation. Mariyo Yagi, along with Yayoi Kusama, are the true ethno-psychiatrists of Japanese cosmogenetic sensibility. Historical falsification in Japanese school texts is related to historical falsification of quantum mechanics, just as Chinese state hysteria over contemporary cults is related to historical falsification of the eternal conflict between Taoists and Confucianists, which is, basically, Chinese history (just as the eternal conflict between Cabalists and the Rabbinate is, basically, Jewish history, a fact suggesting that no amount of Jewish scholarship on WWII is likely to provide any more real insight into origins of WWII than would Chinese scholarship on the subject). That quantum relative-state identity transparency was psychologically displaced to entelechy of the nation-state was a result of all the laughter at Polish jokes preventing m-valued logics being applied to interpretation of the wave-function of Schrödinger's equation of 1925. Think that's funny, do you? Taisho and Weimar democracy (movement and/or reality) were thoroughly quenched by this laughter. If you don't see this, read the Shinjinkai Hongo-YMCA literary effluent (in translation) to see the range of technical literature they were, not only keeping on top of, but deeply dissecting. The German and Italian cases are far more transparent: Futurists and all the rest. The only way to keep Cartesian-Newtonian perspectives (which include utopian socialism, communism, and national socialism) intact under the most-fundamental-possible challenge, that challenge being m-valued logics, was to embrace Born's probability amplitude interpretation of the Schrödinger wave-function (so as to displace the m-valued logics already explicitly on the scene). The Born interpretation meant that the things gathered together in the fascio and the Shinto rope did not yield any true collective identity, any real relative-state identity transparency, any actual entanglement, but only a sham thereof (nowadays, as dissimulation has become experimentally more and more difficult: supraluminal teleportation). Collective unconscious thematic orchestration does not involve cause-to-effect stuff or 2-logically-valued rationality; it involves themes and their exploration via regression and projective identification. This is the real historical engine! not history as force. The Centrencephalic Safety-Discharge Mechanism keeps circling round the theme trying to electrochemically discharge -- by BitTorrent seizure of the neuronal swarm if necessary -- the antihomeostatic effects of the thematic-avoidance type of Neutralization Antagonizing Forms of Resistance. Fundamentals of the worldview construct and assumptions underlying the institutional base must be kept in high correlation; otherwise, the cognitive dissonance is too great, and pathology results (results ultimately in organic brain disease which becomes collectively normative: the brain not being contained by the brain, by virtue of its quantum properties dissimulated to pathology).
Schrödinger's equation came directly out of the laya in Himalaya (actually two layas, as the critical occasion was a Tantric ménage à trois: even if there have been attempts to make it a case of Fertile-Crescent-religion monogamy). This is thematically important to the collective unconscious. If you have a problem with that, then you don't understand why there is so much collective hysteria transpiring over how early history of India is to be presented in contemporary Indian school books (India: The War Over History by William Dalrymple, New York Review of Books, April 7, 2005). Vedic notions of time have no intersection whatsoever with those of academic historians; so how could the Hindu embrace a history of pre-Vedic tribal India (particularly given all the artifacts thereof displayed in the National Museum in Delhi) and of the Vedic period which rejects Vedic notions of time and hence of history? Moreover, the academic historians' assumptions about the nature of time are just simply wrong; Schrödinger's equation, issuing out of Tantric practice, has more to do with Vedic notions of time than anything academic historians have ever imagined. The common-sense time of academic historians is a learned behavior transmitted from generation to generation as organic brain disease disconnect of neuron swarm from quantal base state. All of this stuff is actually interconnected, as that is the nature of thematics in collective unconscious. I would even go so far as to say: It was not the flak-catchers who got Mau-Maued; hardly any ex-RAF pilots were amongst Kenya's gentlemen farmers (The Breaking of the Mau Mau by Neal Ascherson, New York Review of Books, April 7, 2005). This subject is personally, for me, connected to the others, independent of synchronicity of publication in The New York Review of Books, because I chose to become an African Area Studies major at college out of interest in two Emergencies, that in Malaya and that in Kenya. Studied into both of them at Special Operations Research Office, comparatively, given that each involved forced population relocation, an insurgency war application of a fundamental of general British colonial policy (people were moved every which way but loose in supplementation to divide-and-conquer/divide-to-rule) instrumental in producing the conditions for insurgency requiring forced population relocations for solution to insurgency: such circular feedbacks representing a fundamental misunderstanding of the self-reference (underlying m-valued logics) involved in the animistic identity transparency that forced population relocations were undertaken to disrupt, animistic identity transparency being viewed from days of Hobbes as all against all and identified most decisively with The Dark Continent (i.e., unconscious of the white man). My substantial work on this, circa 1964, was written up from an anthropological-sociological point of view as a comparative study of the Briggs Plan in Malaya with the Strategic Hamlets Program in South Vietnam (Mau-Mauing of those who caught no flak being left to background notes). My college roommate had spent a great deal of time in Kenya doing the Mau-Mau period, and this was also a contributing factor determining declaration of a major. Nowadays, economically-forced population relocations associated with globalization dynamics reveal an essential feature of the capitalist mobility-of-labor imperative upon the back of which terrorist, criminal, and extra-institutional agents of change modalities ride. More generally, and no less circularly, humans got mad cow disease from cows who got mad cow disease from being fed cows by humans who got mad cow disease, and, soon, mad cows will get mad human disease from the humans made mad from the human genes inserted into the grains mad humans ate and the feed crops mad humans fed to mad cows so the doubly-GMOed anti-pest food crops could tolerate a greater variety of herbicides, thus preventing all the horrors associated with the superweeds that spring up from over application of a single type of herbicide. There is, of course, also economically-forced unnatural and invasive mobility of plant, animal, insect, and microorganism species to consider.
It's totally impossible, you know; the mind space, the mind spaces people occupy. Operant conditioning and moving parts of centers. Anything remotely to be regarded as consciousness is simply not there. Back soon after WWI, the finger on the trigger was m-valued logics. Psychogenic displacement plus Polish takedown was the regressed theme played out in response. Now, thematically circling once again, the specter of quantum computing coupled to M Theory demands that the base-state of Tzog-chen be taken down. Order of magnitude of threat to the common sense -- oh God! any common sense whatsoever, just so its commonsensical -- is by now without bound. Quantum computing and M Theory not only flirt with m-valued logics, they bring to the fore the likelihood of resurrecting Advaita Vedanta and the Tantric Sastras translated into Tzog-chen (that body of literature Schrödinger was a student of lifelong). A historical loop like that to be found in quantum-gravity: back to the very beginnings of Indic peoples in this post-quantum-relativistic physics. Progress is what we call it! Any wonder why there is collective hysteria over how these very beginnings are to be handled in India's school texts? What will be thematic response to this unprecedented crisis of Western civilization as precipitated by the loop back to Indic beginnings? I think the big events may very well begin as a trans-Himalayan affair.
Optimism in face of present global circumstances is the primary means people employ to avoid making fundamental changes in their lives, values, aspirations, et cetera. Self-justification by disparagement of willingness to embrace reality as being equivalent to doomsayer nihilism. Though, clearly, the whole framework of assessment discussed here is hard to understand or accept without direct immediate experience of it, as is lavishly illustrated, for instance, by choice of the term dependent origination by translators and interpreters of Buddhism, rather then choice of terms like identity transparency, relative-state, entanglement, and even participation mystique, contagion, or, Lord forbid, possession. Origination is not the substantial oeuvre of the involved dependency! Use of origination in modern language context overwhelmingly implies passing linear-time evolution, whereas actuality of what the term denotes is altogether atemporal -- or, more accurately, involves notions of time between and transcending the binary dichotomy temporal vs. atemporal, notions which remove identity from the possibility of being treated in terms of A or not-A characterizations, facets, aspects, sequential changes. If Sanskrit or some other exotic terminology is used in discourse on such subject matter, people react with awe and the sense of being wrapped in a spiritual aura; if a detailed account of what the exotic terminologies refer to without detailing is provided in altogether non-esoteric words without reference to Sanskrit or the like, people register nothing and are unaffected: this does not speak so much to the mantra-conveyed Siddhis of Sanskrit, as to how little is understood of the actual import of the exotic terminology. The auras and Sakti-pats are not actual Siddhis, but effects of projective identification in psychological transference: actual Siddhis are associated with actual insight, insight that would recognize essential meaning regardless of terminology employed, and, conversely, would not choose terms that do not convey essential meanings, e.g., the term dependent origination. Even surpassing scholars like Sir John Woodroffe provide many examples of this in their interpretive discourses. Consider the following from Woodroffe writing on the Tattvas (The Garland of Letters, Madras, Ganesh, 1969 compilation of pieces written largely before WWI, p. 102):
an object is nothing but the one Self appearing through Maya as non-Self to Itself as subject.
This is amplified on page 106:
Through operation in His creative aspect Siva becomes His own object as the Manifested Universe.
Woodroffe goes on to explain how this transpires by stages through emanation of the Tattvas between the two poles of Perfect Experience and Limited Experience, an emanation that is not an emanation in that Perfect Experience remains unchanged in emanating to Limited Experience. Distinguishing features of the various Tattvas as stages of this non-emanating emanation largely involve where identity is placed relative to the two poles -- identity, in being placeable, implicitly, by consequence, is class-inclusion definable, if not uniquely denotable. This is a dependent origination-type treatment involving sequential progression as understood through employment of binary-logic categories, revised only with the caveat that the emanation is not an emanation because the originator and that which is originated are identical and unmodified by the involved modifications (the caveat violating conventions of the binary logic employed for explication). How this can be so is said to be a great mystery beyond understanding, and, hence, use of facets, aspects, stages, and even time-evolution is resorted to. Particularly for the modern mentality does time-evolution inevitably become imputed to this Tattvic emanation, as illustrated by the lack of general agreement as to exact meanings of the terms involution, devolution, and evolution (this epistemological lack being a convolution I regard as ontological and neurological in character).
Woodroffe was writing this just before rigorous definition of m-valued logics appeared on the scene in Poland from a Pole and in New York from another Pole (these two Poles, of course, not being the two poles referred to above, particularized as I [Aham] and This [Idam]). The identity convolution described in the quotation from page 102 cannot be explicated without violating the conventions of the 2-valued order of m-valued logics. Thus is Woodroffe, who uses only the 2-valued order, forced to stack caveat on top of caveat until he explicates the supreme caveat, whereas the much simpler solution is to regard the Tattvas as orders of logical-value (understood in terms of identity transparency, not truth-value), and the non-emanating emanation as decomposition of the m-logically-valued reference space (MVRS) under the operation referred to in the quote from page 106, this operation, to my way of thinking, being a set of topological operations accomplished by 3-fold imaginary operator-time. Siva, being transfinite, is undiminished under the subtraction involved in this decomposition process. Take an infinitude of infinitudes away from a continuum infinity and that continuum has the same cardinality as it had before being subject to this infinite subtraction: the modified is unmodified. Siva (Pure Consciousness) in His active aspect, i.e., Sakti, is the set of all topological operators on the MVRS; Siva in His passive aspect is the MVRS acted upon (which is a formulation spoken from m-logically-valued comprehension toward 2-logically-valued comprehension, by virtue of employment of aspects in the explication). Platonic anamnesis of a nest of orders in self-reference is the basis of m-valued logics; decomposing orders of self-reference is the Platonic amnesis in Vedic Idealism. The Tattva (not the first Tattva, just the Tattva: as sequential progress is possible only under restriction to the 2-valued order of m-valued logics) whereby Siva becomes His own object is that topological operation whereby the non-orientable becomes the orientable by untwisting (not twisting) Möbius-like through an imaginary dimension (the operator carrying this out being operator-time which requires imaginary numbers for its definition).
Codification of m-valued logics, not only made possible further insight into what was likely pre-Vedic Indic tribal understanding of the Tattvas (the Vedas carrying residue of that lost understanding), but surely sent a shockwave through the Polish Catholic unconscious, for the implications of these logics, while catholic, were very unCatholic. To again quote Woodroffe (p. 103):
Supreme Siva and Sakti exist in mutual embrace and love. Bliss is supreme love (Niratisayapremaspandatvam anandatvam). The Supreme state is described by the Brhadaranyaka-Upanisad in the words, He indeed was just as man and woman in embrace (Sa ha etavan asa yatha stripumamasau samparisvaktau)
Siva-Sakti, particularized as Aham-Idam, I-This, are, in the Biblical context, Adam and Eve. But, oh what a difference! From point of view of emanating intermediate Tattvas, original sin -- Eve-instigated eating of the apple -- was not an engagement in intercourse, but separation there from. Cosmogenetic apple as disengagement, not engagement. Not having intercourse was sinful! The very idea that not having intercourse was even possible was sinful. Cosmos as inherently sinful, as born in original sin, not in dependent origination. Not only was substantiality inversely proportional to ponderability, as Sankara in part rightly had it, and as rephrased by F. M.-Wolff, but ponderability was inversely proportional to quality of intercourse (such functionals on Aham and Idam automorphically reentering themselves as Aham-Idam self-reference). For such a doctrine, in the guise of m-valued logics, to have been birthed in Poland is it any wonder such horrendous concrete effects of collective hysteria eventually demerged there (psychodynamically displaced via projective identification to the Jewish question)?
The above is offered merely as preliminary to the observation (concerning synchronicity of publication in the April 7, 2005 issue of The New York Review of Books) that Thomas Powers writing on Native American historiography in The Indians' Own Story agrees, in principle, with the academic historians supported by William Dalrymple in his India: The War Over History printed in the same issue of the Review. One of the books Powers reviews is A Forest of Time: American Indian Ways of History by Peter Nobokov. Although Powers notes that (p. 74):
Identity and its shifting facts are the chief subject of A Forest of Time. Once scholars push back even a few years beyond first contact with Westerners the Indian world is suddenly depeopled. Actual chiefs, prophets, and orators, about whom recognizably real stories can be told, are replaced by figures hazy in time and outline -- once there was a wise man, a brave man, a wily hunter
he does not attempt to pursue implications of this and prefers, instead, to explicate the sort of historical records Indians came to keep in the post-Western-incursion period: primarily winter counts and ledger art, the (p. 75) means of preserving a knowable past -- that is, a readable record of actual persons and events. For, according to Powers (p. 75):
It is the matrix of such true facts that secures for people a place in history -- not in the imagined past of myth and legend, but in the actual past of real people and real events.
But for a people not believing in the past, and maybe only a little bit more in a past, the question of what is real and true in either such past is quite moot. Nor would myth and legend be positioned in a or the imagined past as neither such past would be sufficiently real to entice engagement of the imagination; myth and legend would be omnipresent and only become hazy in time if a time-bound mind raised questions about their temporal placement and demanded answers. Instead of treating plots as allegories of textuality (more likely, intertextuality), the stories of omnipresent myth and legend allegorize atemporal cosmogenesis and its demergent metaphorical embodiments in patterns of human affairs. Powers' assumptions about the nature of time and the testimony of fact are those of the academic historian, not those of pre-Western-incursion-period Native Americans or the Hindu hysterical about depredations upon and/or disappearance of Vedic experience and conceptions -- just as the Indic-influenced Cambodians earlier suffered similarly-induced hysteria, and the Indic-influenced Nepalese are currently suffering.
Identity shifts in a forest of time are extremely apropos of Tattvic decomposition of the MVRS under 3-fold imaginary operator-time. A forest is hardly a line. The academicians' historical time is logically possible only under the 2-valued order of m-valued logics; even under 3-valued logic there can be no well-definition of instants essential to the linear-time line. Given that Aymara, the ancient pre-Western-incursion language of the Andes, has been demonstrated to be based upon a 3-valued logic, it does not seem farfetched to suppose that Oglala, Lakota, Yanktonai, Minneconjou, and Brule, for instance, were aware of kinds of time not restricted to the linear-time line -- and that, prior to Western incursion, their notions of history, or absence thereof, were influenced thereby. Now that quantum computing and M Theory are coming online, with the danger they might morph in such a fashion as to validate nature as m-logically-valued, there can be little surprise that a war over history is transpiring in India -- or that this may lead to a trans-Himalayan affair as kickoff to the big events sure to come. Not only was the mathematically-designated space and time that issued out of formalization and promulgation of linear perspective in painting a necessary prerequisite for formation of Leviathan, the Cartesian-Newtonian nation-state, but so was resurrection of Aristotelian logic in its Baconian form, for raw power of the state divided against itself into countervailing vector components is a poor cost-ineffective vehicle of social coercion if explicitly deployed on a daily basis. Consensus on social contract is dependent upon emergence of tacit consensus on conventions of logical argument. Collective tacit moment-to-moment belief in the inviolability of the rules of syllogistic march relieves the army of the necessity for its daily march in the public forum on behalf of the commonweal and in defense of the common wealth. Rules of logic coerce consensus no less than what comes out of the barrel of a gun. Majority rule is a similar gun barrel forged within the black box of Newton's summation of forces (vector sums), a black box Schrödinger smashed with his Vedic-Tantric wave-function. Newton's forces are singly-valued and logically binary; Schrödinger's wave-function, m-valued and m-logically-valued. And if the Lockean account of civil government could not have been codified, and cannot hold together, absent unquestionable, largely tacitly held on a moment-to-moment basis, rules of binary logic, then neither could (and can) Adam Smith's account of the market supply and demand dynamic underlying economic self-organization (at whatever level of self-organizational competency). This is most easily seen in the degree to which von Hayek's account of market mechanisms relies on the role of rules (elaborated in conformance with conventions of binary logic). Identity shifts in a forest of time are absolutely the core of these matters. In European medieval pictorial space the same figure often appears multiply within the same picture frame. People today (people, that is, coming from generation after generation coerced by post-Renaissance conventions) emotionally, even vehemently, insist that these figures are meant to exist at different times. When it is pointed out that if this is so, looking at many examples where, for instance, the figure is younger and older, one cannot decide whether conventional past-to-future in the collection of picture planes considered runs left to right, top to bottom, right to left, diagonally on this or that phase angle, or simultaneously in all such directions, the emotional person, the vehement indignant, quite often quite simply turns away, terminating the conversation for all time. Such conversations, of course, only occur by happenstance at exhibitions, and the person thus assaulted can therefore be certain, that once terminated, there can be no recurrence. The last case, perhaps -- simultaneous multiple directionalities of non-selfsame linear-time -- being the most frightening, and the most similar to current interpretations of phase-digit quantum computing. Art music of the European Middle Ages exhibits even more elaborate analogous such examples, but, there being no visual clues, and the evidence alone in aural form revealed only to the trained ear, which instantly doesn't like what it hears, largely pre-12th century, conversations about that don't often transpire. When they do, the outcome is generally the same as in the pictorial case. How often does one encounter a Caliban Reborn?
When such devastating worldview-construct existential denials are received from other the solution is generally straightforward: kill the blapity-blap-blap by whatever means available. When received from self, however, then the convolution, the conundrum -- aposiopesis here -- becomes a destroy-the-village-in-order-to-save-it double-bind that cannot be consciously processed, so collective projective identification intercedes by transference, and psychodynamic displacement of the failed logic to the Islamic question (earlier the Jewish question) is successfully accomplished -- historical repetition of this being a treating by psyche of intrapsychic plots as allegories of textuality (more likely, intertextuality): epanados and possibly, catastrophically, chiasmus, such deconstructive behaviors being pathogenic, not cosmogenic, and thematically orchestrated by centrencephalic safety-discharge mechanisms phase correlated between, over, and across brains by antihomeostatic manipulations of the social structure of attention. The prevailing India case is something of a thematic retrograde inversion, of course, in that even in the pre-WWI period John Woodroffe felt compelled to disparage those many educated Indians who disparaged their Vedic heritage as mere mumbo-jumbo, and now that science itself, the educational agent of such disparaging colonized Indian fall guys, is producing notions replicating Vedic cosmogony, well
My writing is an intrapsychic process. As much as is possible for my me, my I tries to write the way the psyche actually functions; this does not involve an overt attempt to directly communicate with the conscious mind. It is not necessary one think thoughts one after another; one can be above one's thoughts in a time-lapse photograph of them. Then one's actual thoughts are the patterns on the time lapse. If that is the case, writing involves lots of parentheses, dashes, semicolons, and colons. (Intensive journal writing over long periods, accompanied by constant reviewing and pattern search, builds this ability to detach. One sees that one's actual thought on a given datum or issue varies recurrently, is not in any immediate thought, but in the pattern; as this awareness deepens relative to many specific data and issues, one pays less and less attention to the immediate thought followed by the next immediate thought. In due course, one finds oneself more and more detached from the very presumption of a passing linear-time. I began serious journal writing in the 7th grade. Most of the material recorded over the last 45 years has had absolutely no literary value: its value has been for inner work alone.) Clarity, brevity, economy, style: this is not the psyche; it is a survival strategy of the discrete encapsulated ego function which designates its efforts as craft and aesthetics in communication with other such ego functions similarly engaged. How else maintain personal integrity in face of the world's chaos? egoic identification asks. Notice that here, my I, the writer, is projecting by word choice an inner separation, a detachment, an observer-state not convivial to egoic identification but facilitative of getting into time-lapse "photograph". Mastery of craft, by establishing a domain of total control within the picture frame or whatever, is decontextualization, a displacement simulacra, a ritualized acting out in/on a circumscribed environment as wish-fulfillment of psychological dominance of the unruly larger environment threatening to overwhelm the ego's claim to be absolutely-in-so-far-as-distinct (to employ Hubert Benoit's oh-so-apropos term, a term he coined to better explicate The Theory and Practice of Detachment According to Zen). How is the metapsychology of this craft mastery, this bon-ton esthete aesthetic, in principle, different from the metapsychology of master-race fascism? Different from top-down, pyramidal (the opposite of transcendental Hegelian centered structure, which is a matter of animistic identity transparency), command-economy, materialist-communist (therefore far from transcendental) dictatorship of the proletariat? Would Marx have rejected in Hegel the very thing he later sponsored? Maybe, but it didn't happen. Different from Homeland Security total information control? Different from a bonfire of the vanities cultivated by masters of the universe? Leibnitz's doctrine, the identity of indiscernibles (no A is not B), is of the utmost importance here, because what has been collectively refused by conscious minds and hence has regressively demerged as the wars and holocausts of several centuries, is this doctrine's obverse: denied animistic identity transparency, the identity of discernibles (all A is B), which in quantum physics is called entanglement, and which is also the hallmark of the transcendental Hegelian centered structure vehemently rejected by Marx and his latter-day saints, the deconstructionists. Identity of discernibles violates many binary-logic laws, but that most easily seen, and most easily toyed with, is the Law of Non-Contradiction: no A is not-A. Writing as an intrapsychic process does not involve communication by information transfer, but knowledge through identity of discernibles (i.e., character development of discrete encapsulated egos is fiction). This is a conundrum it appears the human species may yet manage to commit collective suicide upon. The greatest criticism leveled against MOON is that the characters are too much alike, have no development, are identity transparent! The knotted fallacies of 2-valued logic, once unraveled, become Ariadne's thread; these fallacies are supreme m-logically-valued valid principles of All and Everything. Just as one need not say I to the contents of one's awareness, one need not say I to the system of rules formalizing those contents. These forms of non-doing are simply two small steps on the road to find out, which runs in the direction of expansion of consciousness. Each step involves a profound transformation in the direct immediate experience of identity. After a considerable lapse, existence of m-valued logics was partially assimilated in some circles by embracing as non-fallacious the Fallacy of Undistributed Middle, that fallacy being violation of the case must be either A or not-A. This embrace gave rise to the fuzzy-logic interpretation of m-valued logics. But such embrace, no less than deconstructionist toying with contradiction, appears to have been a mere defensive maneuver, a parry, in the ongoing effort to keep the m-logically-valued monster at bay -- yet another survival strategy of the ego function, one sure to fail.
What was happening in the general European cultural ambient as m-valued logics were codified and Schrödinger wrote his wave equation while practicing Tantric sexual yoga? What factors could have been involved in the psychodynamic displacement of m-valued logics to the Jewish question under projective identification in collective transference, such THEMATIC displacement by definition being wholly unconscious? The articles later pulled together as Sir John Woodroffe's book The Garland of Letters (Madras, Ganesh, 1969 edition of the pre-WWI collected articles) were written during this period. What was the European reaction to the Tantric literature Woodroffe translated and interpreted, and which Schrödinger studied and practiced the indications of while arriving at the insights yielding his wave equation? Woodroffe offers some contemporary European reactions to the Sakta Tantras (p. 127):
throughout its symbolism and pseudo-philosophisings there lies at the basis of the whole system the conception of the sexual relationship as the ultimate explanation of the universe.

These reactions came sometime during the WWI period or shortly before: the Banquet Years. What else was happening in the environmental context of Schrödinger's ego sphere? Rosa Luxemburg was murdered largely for the role she played in attempted formation of the Bavarian Soviet Republic, an attempt to de-center Germany (i.e., remove Hegelian animistic Erdgeist identity transparency as the foundation of Einfuhlung and the Heimat sensibility). During that same year -- the 1919 John Roderigo Dos Passos wrote so cleverly about -- similar events transpired in Hungary. Historian John Lukacs provides a capsule account in his recent Review article The Siege of Budapest (The New York Review of Books, April 7, 2005, p. 36):
And Hungarian anti-Semitism, only sporadic before the First World War, got a tremendous boost from the national reaction against the short-lived Communist regime in 1919, in which two thirds of the commissars had been Jews.
Two years later, a rigorous account of m-valued logics was first published; four years after that, 1925, Schrödinger produced his famous wave equation; the following year, 1926, Born offered the probability-amplitude interpretation, and, once consensuated, in this probabilistic fashion did the community of physicists reject applicability of m-valued logics to quantum mechanics. Thus, in my view, was the unconscious psychodynamic displacement to the Jewish question marked into events by projective identification in collective transference.
Schrödinger's wave-function actually codifies the essential properties of Kala Sakti (time energy); the fact of his practicing Tantric sexual yoga at the time of its formulation is no mere happenstance. But in order to see that, the Hamiltonian operator (total energy operator) of the time-independent Schrödinger wave equation (the one actually written by Schrödinger) has to be seen in terms of Kala. What is Kala? Three-fold complex-imaginary operator-time! The time-independent equation describes the embrace of Siva-Sakti as being without conditions (no initial conditions, no boundary conditions: not this, not that; nitti-nitti). No pre-nupts; an open relationship. The physical, genitally-fixated, aspects of sex (imagined by the Europeans Woodroffe quoted, as given above) in Advaita Vedanta, Tantra, Tzog-chen, even in Nyaya-Vaisesika, Samkhya-yoga, Jaina, and Mimamsa are -- Cabalistically speaking -- all the way down at the bottom of the Tree of Life, mere matters of Maya (not-That). The purpose behind the Kama Sutra, unlike that of internet porn, is to move conscious awareness back up the Tree of Life from its genitally-fixated and fetishized bottom-end state. In order to get Born's probability-amplitude interpretation to really work, i.e., to computationally localize discrete entities, it was necessary that Siva-Sakti be bound (regressive, S-M approach to cosmogony). This was something Schrödinger would have nothing to do with; so Dirac did it in writing the time-dependent Schrödinger equation (which is better called the Dirac equation). Once this S-M approach was fully articulated, all the physicists fell in line. The fact that Siva is modified by Sakti (both being mere semi-autonomous complexes of undifferentiable trans-cosmic Psyche-tic/Hylê-istic zero-point [non-stuff-become-stuff-with-measurement] Heisenberg-uncertainty energy-motion), yet remains unmodified by this modification, is quantum complementarity (spontaneous localization and fusion rectilinear to linear-time): Eadem mutata resurgo (Though changed, I shall arise the same). Whew! There are three-inch thick books on the Greek notion of Hylê. The identity convolutions involved in all this violate the rule conventions of traditional Aristotelian-Baconian binary logic; hence, quantum paradoxes. Don't like paradoxes? Then go to m-valued logics under operations of three-fold complex-imaginary operator-time in interpretation of Schrödinger's original time-independent wave equation!
I have never seen anything quite like operator-time (a term Wolfgang Pauli apparently originated, with a somewhat different meaning than I impute) in English language versions of interpretations of classical Indic and Buddhist literature -- the interpreters not being familiar with the notion. There are, however, many suggestions this was the original pre-Vedic tribal Indic, and possibly even Vedic, meaning of the Sanskrit word Kala (the Vedas containing a deteriorated residue of something even then being lost to the neuronal-etching consequences of the forced-indoctrination-as-prescriptive-enculturation which services the needs of role stratification -- capacity of conscious awareness to register the brain's m-logically-valued processing having steadily deteriorated since then). Time as active logical and topological operator on abstract and concrete space. Below, I excerpt some illustrative phrases and passages from Kumar Kishore Mandal's excellent book (which I first read in the early '70s and have carried around with me, along with Woodroffe's books, ever since) A Comparative Study of the Concepts of Space and Time in Indian Thought (Varanasi, Chowkhamba Sanskrit Series, Vol. XLV, 1968):

Time is the structural cause or the dynamic and synthesizing principle. (p. 7)
In Vedic texts, time is conceived as the creative and destructive principle. (p. 10)
in Brhad-Aranyaka Upanisad, it is mentioned that what people call the past, the present, and the future are woven like warp and woof across space. (p. 11)
It [Kala] is also treated as the power of God which creates disturbance in the gunas of Avyakta to make it manifest itself as universe. Thus it is the efficient cause of the universe. (p. 21)
Karma is also a product of Kala and thus it guides the modes of operation of time [emphasis added]. Kala is both transcendent and immanent cause of all objects. (p. 25)
Kala makes the modifications of Pudgalas (physical objects) (p. 76)
Kala or time is the substratum of all changes and transformations it is itself the cause of change. If any other change is posited for the change of Kala, it will lead to the fallacy of infinite regress. (pp. 78-9)
Time is the cause of things that are produced. (p. 83)
Kala is taken to be the cause of changes and modifications. (p. 86)
Kala is the instrumental cause (nimitta Karana) of all objects in the world. (p. 87)
Thus it (time) does not basically differ from actions (p. 121)
The various discourses on the nature of space and time reviewed in this book are quite sophisticated; it, therefore, should not be assumed that the pre-Vedic tribal ancients, being simpleminded, personified a reference frame, and in so doing inadvertently and mistakenly gave it active properties. The discussions of the various kinds of Akasa (space), both abstract and ponderable, make quite clear that the differences between a reference frame and an actor (transcendental and concrete) were well understood.
So, if Kala operates according to the laws of Karma, how does Kala Sakti automorphically decompose Siva-Sakti in process of spontaneous localization? Quoting Woodroffe's The Garland of Letters (p. 128):
For the Sakta-Tantra is the Sadhana-sastra of Advaitavada presenting the teaching of Vedanta in its own manner and in terms of its own ritual symbolism. Thus it is said that Nada is the Maithuna of Siva and Sakti and that when Mahakala was in Viparita Maithuna with Mahakali (a form of Maithuna again which is symbolical of the fact that Siva is Niskrya and Sakti Sakrya) there issues Bindu. For Maithuna, others substitute the logical [emphasis added] term Mitha-samavayah as a description of Nada, which is Kriyasakti From Nada came Mahabindu and this latter differentiated into the Tribindu which is Kamakala, the Mula of all Mantras.
The Mula of all Mantras is not exactly the Mother of all Battles, despite the popular treatments given in the Mahabharata and Ramayana. This process is described in very great detail, the whole 500 pages of Woodroffe's book The World as Power (Madras, Ganesh, 1974 edition of the collected articles written largely in the pre-WWI period) describing, if not fully deciphering, those details.
Before explaining why the word logical is emphasized, a note on methodology is in order. My assumption was that real understanding of all this had to have been seriously receding even as the Vedas began oral transmission, otherwise Brahmanic role stratifications could never have convoluted out of it. I did not, therefore, contrary to the case in two years of high school Latin, make lists of Sanskrit words and memorize their attributed meanings; I tried to ignore as much as possible their imputed meanings, while noting the varied contexts in which a given word recurs. Applying techniques -- more accurately, adopting the mental set of such application -- of traffic analysis developed a few years earlier at Strategic Research and Analysis, MACV-HQ, I regarded Sanskrit terms as encoded ciphers I might decipher by contextual analysis. But, intentionally, I did not proceed systematically to employ graphical crypanalytic techniques, statistical inference, and the like; this choice was due to a second assumption: what is behind what Advaita Vedanta describes, if Advaita is correct, must be transpiring in me and I must be able to directly experience it. I, therefore, while reading, went diffuse, did what I could to maintain a state of inner separation from the act of reading, and free-associated on the contextual variations noted as recurring with given Sanskrit terms. The choice to go diffuse and free-associate grew out of what I had earlier learned from direct experience of the man-woman level of the transference, as described in Studies for Liana excerpted at length in MOON -- this level of the transference having heuristic value relative to the Siva-Sakti process at question. One can learn to be as highly attentive to diffuse awareness, like a cat, as one can be to the focused awareness used to solve a problem in calculus. As this diffuse free-association (initially of what must be called feeling-toned responses: a sensation of passing under, going behind, receding, popping up, lifting above, crashing down in feeling-space) proceeded over a several year period, my inner Musculpt -- something I had always had some vague suspicion of in moments of intense concentration -- became more and more clarified to immediate awareness. For a three-year period, I took classes in music composition and practiced painting music as an aid to concentration in the diffuse. All form is in color; all color, in form: this according to modern theory of non-objective painting and ancient Advaita Vedanta. The to-me-meaningless Sanskrit term, treated as an unknown, when first encountered, appeared to diffuse awareness as an undifferentiated color field and drone-tone, just the sort of colored-tonal field associated with the autogenic brain discharges extensively documented (and described, drawn, painted by patients) in the clinical literature of Autogenic Therapy (see, for instance, Wolfgang Luthe, The Clinical Significance of Visual Phenomena During the Autogenic State, in Autogenic Training: Correlationes Psychosomaticae, W. Luthe, editor, Grune and Stratton, 1965) on patients repeating non-Sanskrit training formulas (physiologically-adapted mantras in the patients' native languages, arrived at, not by analogy to Vedic notions, but on basis of research on brain physiology, sleep mechanisms, and the like): can the trans-verbal approximate natural name be approached via sememes? A Yes! to that question became my hypothesis as sounded-forms appeared Belsonesque on the colored-tonal field, and their shapes and associated tones changed as imputed meaning clarified with recurrence in differing contexts -- the total curvature configuration and the set of topological transformations leading to it being the Musculpt signature of the trans-verbal sememe in question. To this very day, I have no verbal grasp of Sanskrit; what little I know is all in inner Musculpt. The few Sanskrit words I verbally know are associated overwhelmingly to the sounded-forms of inner Musculpt and very, very much less to verbalizable English. Better inner Musculpt be exteriorized via a human pod trained in biofeedback-equipped isolation/flotation tanks while practicing EscherFormDance in smart dancewear and trying to learn the sonic-visioning of DolphinSpeak clicks (rather than trying to teach dolphins to speak little-more-than-merely-verbal HumanSpeak). And to this very day, as far as I know, the footlocker after footlocker of DolphinSpeak tapes contained in John C. Lilly's scientific archive have not been digitalized!
The Sanskrit words listed above were carefully chosen, for each of them relate to some aspect of what may be regarded the numbering of m-logically-valued Gödel numbers on the base-state matrix of Tzog-chen. The various contemporaneous or historically separated schools are just different limited takes on all this: thus, an integrative synthetic eclecticism-syncretism is the royal road in Indian metaphysics. Having prefaced by stating that such cannot be done in words, Sanskrit or other, only in Musculpt -- natural names and even approximate natural names being trans-verbal, including trans-Sanskrit -- still, I will have a few words to say about it. The Musculpt most required in the biofeedback-equipped isolation/flotation tank (utilization of which would be the quickest way to get into the melon of the bottle-nosed dolphin's sonic-visioning system and thence to the approximate natural names composing his/her click language) is Musculpt-as-mathematical-notation. Though various orders of the Undifferentiated-as-such may be predicated as logically and ontologically prior, Mahapralaya is the absence of all impulse to un-number such numbered numbers, i.e., it is the Maithuna embrace of Siva-Sakti, which is absolutely atemporal, without onset, complete, uninterrupted, unbounded, contains all that is and ever could be within itself. Every class of nothing, whatsoever emptiness, all possible and impossible (from some perspective) negations are already always there in the orders of infinity collected to the m of the m-logically-valued. A Gödel number is a logical proposition, order 2 (i.e., binary logic). A numbered Gödel number is an m-logically-valued proposition, order depending upon cardinality of numbering of the number. On the base-state matrix of Tzog-chen, cardinality of numbering of all Gödel numbers is the C of Cantor's continuum hypothesis. C-orders are stacked on the number placed on the point of the matrix. Call such a point Mahabindu. Tribindu is an equilateral triangular collection of such Bindu, making the base-state of the matrix a most-densely-packed equilateral triangular symmetry grid (like that of quark symmetry patterns). So long as this C-cardinality is universally maintained on the matrix, Nothing Ever Changes: all things and non-things possible and impossible, which are completely non-orientable, already always are in the Eternal Now of the grid. Forgetting (i.e., subtracting) this or that value, even infinitudes of such values, leaves the matrix unmodified, given that C, as Cantor demonstrated, is undiminished under the operation of subtraction. Allow, however, amnesis of a single cardinal order of value stacked on any numbered Gödel number and non-orientability is lost; in a flash, value losses arc in lattices across the base-state of the matrix forming Paramanus, lattices of lost values arrayed on decomposed sheets of lesser and lesser and lesser densely-packed equilateral triangular symmetry grids (decomposing -- by regularly removing points from the tiling pattern, such that the grid envelopes by scale levels -- to a bridged Riemann surface, not constructing such a surface). Atomistic discreteness is decomposed out of undifferentiated continuum and returns thereto by Platonic anamnesis (Platonism being one take on Vedic Idealism, as Cambridge-trained Greek scholar Aurobino Ghose essayed). Suddenly, no-thing has become everything, and Everything is Nothing But Changes. Only when anything-of-everything is not always there can there be changes. This is glutamaturgic etching of cosmic neurons: the forgetting of Being-in-Itself into its cosmic Becoming-as-Existence. Only if some lights can rheostat down to out can there be a Christmas Tree Effect. And yet, simply by Platonic remembering, Nothing Ever Changes. Rheostat the lights back up. Time is not in remembering; it is in forgetting. That which caused the loss of cardinal-order-in-logical-value is time, operator-time: Kala Sakti. With the initial operation of time comes a cascade (not of divisions of time, for time here is a LOGICAL OPERATOR): as grid variables, as matrix functionals, 3 Paramanus make 1 Anu; 3 Tasarenus make 1 Vedhas; 3 Vedhas make 1 Lava; 3 Lavas make 1 Nimesa; 3 Nemesas make 1 Ksana (only here does time become a TOPOLOGICAL OPERATOR as Ksana changes Guna's unit of abstract space, i.e., superstring length); 5 Ksanas make 1 Kastha; 15 Kasthas make 1 Laghu; 15 Laghus make 1 Nadika; and so on ad infinitum. Distributed control (a designation only for those fleeing control freaks) to the very utmost. Rupa-points, Sabda-points, and Tanmatra lattices of such classes of points devolving on the decomposed sheets and relating to different classes of classes (Russellian types: subcategories of Gunas as qualities are types it should be noted, relative to strings) of orders of stacked logical-value. Ontologically later, only, does irreversible linear-time as reference frame devolve. Combinatorial topology, differential geometry, and much, if not all, of what is currently involved in M Theory. The present, the past, and the future of the irreversible linear-time reference frame are logical and topological inferences, under the rules of binary logic, in the order given -- i.e., present, past, future; not past, present, future -- from the three order-folds of 3-fold complex-imaginary operator-time: hyparxical third-order inferential to the present; cyclical second-order inferential to the past; linear first-order inferential to the future. Enough forgetfulness leads to Becoming as irreversibly linear-time bound.
In other climes and other irreversible linear-times, all this is the Cabalistic Tree of Life, the Hegelian transcendental centered structure, the Taoist center in the midst of the conditions. Each present is a (de)construction of its own past and future; and thus are past and future histories written. Brahmanism battled against this; the Rabbinate battled against this; Confucianism battled against this. Weapons in battle were the Laws of Manu, commands issued from burning bushes and tablets proffered on mountainsides, analects and moral economies transforming the non-emanating emanation into social hierarchies. Thus was an introjection of natural nature inverted to a transference upon nature via projective identification: mass warfare manufactured. Thematics of collective unconscious historical processing are not handled by cause-and-effect under the 2-valued order of m-valued logics; they are handled in the same fashion as dream images are handled. Pattern imposition by historical consensus establishes cause and effect: the facilitative function of the academic historian. Marx's manner of rejecting the transcendental aspects of Hegelian thought became dialectical materialism: cyclical recurrence (second-order operator-time) made a thesis-antithesis-synthesis spiral converging upon the omega point of pure communism: hard utopianism. This was a secularization of Old Testament recurrent Rabbinical cyclicities (re: Christopher Dawson). Just as Brahmanism had once institutionalized ontological decomposition of the Vedic Eternal Now (third-order operator-time) into a caste system (re: Victor P. Childe), and Christianity had transformed the abscissa of linear-time by bending it toward the ordinate (first-order operator-time) and into an upward gradient of progress vectored on a Kingdom of Heaven omega point: soft utopianism (re: Vernon Lewis Parrington). Each of these are partials, even typologically authentic partials: limitations of the whole of 3-fold operator-time. Inability to access fully in a balanced fashion the complete complement of psychological functions is the engine for projective identification in transference, individual and collective.
Abel's work on transcendental functions during the 1820s, which led in due course to Cantor's work on transfinite sets and eventually to codification of m-valued logics, came well before Marx back-reacted against transcendentalism of the Young Hegelians and in defense of the failing Cartesian-Newtonian worldview construct -- concrete acts decades later, like attempted formation of the Bavarian Soviet Republic, being mere thematic development catalyzing displacement to the Jewish question via projective identification in collective transference. Read into the Vedic literature! Organic brain disease is splashed over every oral transmission, every page. Personification gave rise to subjugation of women, the caste system, kinghood and emperorship. Personification was set against tribal animistic identity transparency (which, by very definition, cannot be personified). If you don't believe this, if you believe the opposite is the case, then you have not read Pupul Jayakar's The Earthen Drum (Delhi, National Museum, 1980) which New York publishers inappropriately retitled The Earth Mother (Penguin, 1989). The farther back into the artifact record, the less figurative, the more exclusively abstract. Get out of the ontic! Try direct immediate experience of actual identity transparency. Tunnel into animistic tribal identity transparency and enter a world depeopled. Un-personified is archaicizing; personification is a modernizing cognitive deficit. His Saktis are many! Woodroffe translating-interpreting the Tattva-Samdoha in The Garland of Letters (p. 191): He retains His own Self-hood and becomes at the same time the object of His own experience. Personification yielding narcissism: a complete falsification of the case. And by extension (p. 192):
The whole object of Sadhana [spiritual practice] is to increase Sattva-Guna until, on man becoming wholly Sattvika, his body passes from the state of predominant Sattva-Guna into Sat itself.
A complete falsification of the case; something, on first principles, that could never happen. The object of Sadhana is equalization of the Gunas, not application of any neural Darwinian principle of maximization. Particularity is result of disequilibrium in the Gunas; realization of the General (case) of Generals (cases) is in return of equilibrium. This is a forest Woodroffe perhaps could not see for the trees he knew so well. On page 181, he says (this quotation is constructed not by changing word order, but by leaving many words out used by Woodroffe): From Kimcit Kala produces Prakrti owing to disequilibrium of the Gunas This Kala has the diacritic on the second a -- call it Kala-2 -- and is therefore not the Kala with diacritic on the first a -- call it Kala-1. Kala-2 is twistorized Kala-1. The twistor (of Roger Penrose) is the quantization of the temporal curl! Kala-2 is a little doer (literal meaning). Kartrttva is infinite agency cut down to size, brought to the limit, quantized. Kimcit-kartaram is a naked singularity; actually, the collection of all naked singularities on the base-state of Tzog-chen (these singularities, when numbered with numbered Gödel numbers, no longer being naked). The Gunas are three classes of superstrings, all the same length in Pralaya: Gunas equalized (e.g., quark symmetries). Again constructing a quotation from Woodroffe by keeping the same word order and deleting many intervening words (p. 178):
the moment that Kala [Kala-2] separates from Herself as Kimcit that very moment there is the creation (Sarga) of the equalization of [the] Gunas
Formation of naked singularities is involved with creation of superstrings of the same length, this same-length property being lost when (Woodroffe, p. 181) Prakrti [which] exists as a mere general objectivity becomes particular owing to disequilibrium in the Gunas Twistorized operator-time creating matter and matter's particular forms out of naked singularities, the critical juncture being when m-logically-valued n-dimensional Hilbert space is pulled out of the base-state of Tzog-chen (Sakharov's ponderable laminated -- the Kancukas -- spacetime manifold coming logically and ontologically much later). But in the Vedas as orally transmitted to the people, the superconductant mirror -- which is Maya (not-That); which is symbolized by the intersection point at which the inverted ontological-cosmogenetic triangles meet; that Maya which reverses the image such that everything in existence is an inversion of its being-in-itself -- is personified. Every schemata whatsoever is personified! This was not required for popular understanding; it was a subterfuge, a stratagem. In different form (not via personification), but for similar motivation, the same sort of thing they've been doing ever since 1926 in transmitting the New Physics to the people! In the Vedic case, personification coupled to the two poles-binary treatment is the mark of neurological degeneration (giving rise to subterfuges, to stratagems): the neuronal swarm suffers a disconnect from its m-logically-valued quantal foundations and this disconnect becomes the keystone of the social order, the institutionalization of the resultant regression (as codified in pathological worldview construct). All the world's great religions make exhibition of this brain disease, this Our Father transference-personification; the last 5,000 years constitute the history of this collective degenerative disease -- which is rising to terminal fulmination (the brain's quantum properties coming under uncommon electromagnetic assault throughout the 20th century, and passing a major threshold in fMRI and other quantum-invasive imaging technologies). Consequences of 5,000 years of misbehavin' gunna (not Guna) cusp in the space of a single decade. The human species has not used m-valued logics on a normative basis for 5,000 years. The imprimatur of these logics is to be found all over the Vedas, but subverted by personification and polarity treatments-dissimulations. Appearance of a rigorous treatment of m-valued logics early in the 20th century (suppressed in the New Physics) is the mark of termination, termination, at the very least, of a not-so Great Age. If the First Coming (of whichever grandee) did little to alter course of this disease, wherein lies the optimism about effects of a Second Coming, of a Mettrai or whomever? Perhaps brain disease is to be regarded the primary qualification for admittance to The Kingdom of Heaven, if not the Pure Land. Truth be told, God helps those who help themselves, and leaves the rest to twist in the wind under good offices of His twistors.
Look, my I barely gives a hoot about proof, demonstration, experiment; these primarily facilitate technology production. The purpose of technology is to alter what is already perfect. What does that make technologically-superior cultures? What contribution does a culture of war, a culture superior at war, make to actual comprehension? What does the presence of warfare superiority indicate about ontological and epistemological insight? What class of respect can be accorded to cultures of war and their representatives? What is cosmically most efficacious is for low mind to get itself into high perfect form, not alter that form. If things had not come to such a pass as is currently the case, what need would my I of writing, let alone writing on a computer? In so far as one is in the form of Heaven, one is in Heaven: Emanuel Swedenborg (quoted from a failing memory). Time out of mind: this is the ontological injunction levied upon edifying epistemological endeavors, Vedic idealism being a very considerable improvement over a very much later latter-day Kant. Irreversible linear-time reference frame may be ideal in the Kantian sense, i.e., a matter of prescriptively enculturated categorical inner space (category of our understanding) geometrically extrojected to ponderable space (with a sign reversal, of course) by Einstein/Minkowski, but time as complex-imaginary 3-fold topological operator on n-dimensional Hilbert space under m-valued logics (MVRS) and quantized as Penrose twistor is not merely such kind of ideal. At that level of comprehension, inner-space/ponderable-space is-are nonorientable. Far enough out-there is in-here; far enough in-here is out-there! At a higher level of comprehension yet, this twisted psychosomatic nonorientability is permissible by virtue of the contextualizing counterhypercomplex numbers, counterhyperspace, and countertemporal (not mere linear-time reversal) operations establishing the nonorientability of Hylêistic data and Psychetic data quantum measurement taps into (contrary to the notion of a classical limit, there is no measurement that does not disturb dark matter-energy: matter/anti-matter, connective mass-energy, configurational mass-energy, et cetera, are matters of temporal directionality, not only linear-time reversal, and not only all quantum phase-digit angles, but also of the countertimes of countertemporal operators). Think the world couldn't possibly be so complex? Feel the murderous impulse to take a razor to it's Gothic Arabesques? Many kinds of hate lurked in recesses of the Renaissance. As Newton knew, he only picked up a few of the pebbles strung along the beach. Actually follow the ladder of Samadhi states (which, as far as my I can tell, is not Jacob's Ladder). Heisenberg uncertainty as the tip of the iceberg of skew-perpendicularity (of lines of force and equipotential surfaces); Gödel incompleteness/undecidability of/in 2-valued logic-constructed systems as opening on the new world operationally recomposed via m-logical values: the skews of skew-perpendicularity are, logically speaking, the m-values of m-valued logics (just as geometrical transformation is, algebraically speaking, Euler's notion of function -- which suggests something fundamental about form and function relative to Unified Science, and which is not necessarily to Steiner-speak or to invoke laws of symbolic form; it is simply Whyte's The Next Development in Man, if man makes it through the present pass). On a certain level, the infinite regress in classes of irreversible linear-times required to measure classes of irreversible linear-times, which St Augustine and interwar Brits into experiments in time, fretted over, is the nature of the case, even if also a binary-logic fallacy. Only under G. Spenser Brown's cross-notation can this infinite regress crisis of temporal collapse be escaped (Hawking's dread-panic over spatial collapse prefigured his dread-panic over temporal collapse, as the latter is reflected in the notion of operator-time). My I knows it is hard to get the idea of how m limiting time rates of change of acceleration could Be ontologically/logically before m limiting accelerations Become, and how m limiting accelerations could Be ontologically/logically before m limiting velocities Become, there being an infinite nest of each in each class -- c's inside of c-dots; c-dots inside of c-double-dots -- but this is why entering the new world Gödel feared to tread is required. A time rate of change of acceleration is only a time rate of change of acceleration when viewed from the logical, ontological, and existential perspective of linear-time-bound mind. Viewed on the base state of the MVRS, however, any particular limiting time rate of change of acceleration (autogravitation: prefiguring loop-quantum geon: my I read Wheeler's Gravitation two years after it came out) is a numbered Gödel number which maps to a Regge hyper-lattice which corresponds to a hyperspace topological configuration and all the way down the Brownian {[[[c-double-dots]]] [[c-dots]] [c's]} staircase (height of the step-risers in prime number distribution) unto lowly spacetime curvature configuration. Autophobia for Real-I, and this phobia's autoimmune consequences (via autogravitating superconductant DNA), is a global given any astute strategic planner would have to factor into each of his/her stacked multiple scenarios. This phobia sets terms of the Big Events on their way. Two-valued binary-logic rationality is only by way of psychologically rationalizing the ontological guilt of self-imposed existential separatism.
Yep, 5,000 years ago on irreversible linear-time reference frame seems a good guess to me -- if you want to reference on that reference frame and if you want the security blanket of a good guess. Large-scale wet-rice agriculture began about that time; wild-rice swidden got increasingly swaddled after that. My best good guess -- wag -- is that normative widespread conscious awareness of neurological employment of m-valued logics was all but gone by then. This is about the time, we are told, there was divergence between Chinese and Greek orientations to medicine (well before the rise of acupuncture). Probably another 2,000 years before the real institutional horrors (modern social life) associated with mass agriculture became widely entrenched and began their convolution into ever greater horrors. This entrenchment is what I mostly think of as agriculture. The planting and reaping going back 10,000 years and more was apparently pretty localized, and back then what was human population of the planet, anyway? Given that my ancestral profession and the bulk of my working life was Tree Planter, I trend not only toward the Luddite but also to arboreal animism. The Team Sergeant who organized my assignment to Special Forces Training Group kept a photograph on the wall above his bunk wherein he was pictured sitting on the ladder leading to a Djarai hootch; above the photo in bold letters was thumb-tacked the word HOME. Clearly, the residue of m-logically-valued animistic identity transparency has persisted right up until the present day (in increasingly isolated, increasingly tiny locations: a highly endangered species of experience). I don't buy into any of the dating schemes, not only because I believe irreversible linear-time reference frame is learned behavior, but also because I seriously doubt fundamental assumptions brought to interpretation of the data generated by the dating methods, including ice cores, ocean and lake sediments, tree rings, coral, and so on. I think there is virtually no possibility whatsoever that one or more of these fundamental assumptions is not unwarranted: consensus history of consensus science itself is sufficient to generate that thought.

Eighty-five years later, people regard themselves physically assaulted if told there are orders of logical-value other then the binary. Tantamount to attempted murder! This tells me a great deal about what is going to transpire on this planet. I, a onetime intelligence analyst, can only regard this behavior an indicator of enemy intentions. Another such indicator is the degree to which people buy into the prevailing black propaganda regarding intelligence and counterintelligence failures: intelligence failure on Iraqi WMD; intelligence failure that permitted 9/11 to transpire; counterintelligence failure permitting Oklahoma city bombing; counterintelligence failure permitting the Tokyo gas attack; intelligence failure prior to Tet-'68; intelligence failure prior to the N. Korean invasion of the South; failure of Stalin to utilize the intelligence provided by Sorge concerning Nazi invasion of Russia the list is long. A much shorter list is that of actual failures, such as the tactical intelligence failure concerning Granada which resulted in the deaths of a number of Delta Force operators. If you have a global positioning or domestic jockeying strategy unacceptable to the public and/or requiring concealment from your enemies and/or allies, then one thing you do is create intelligence and counterintelligence failures to dissimulate the strategy guiding your actions. People buy deeply into such dissimulations only if there is a collective psychological gradient predisposing thereto; presence of such a gradient is an indicator. Enormous psychological wherewithal is required to resist such a gradient.
Come on! The liar paradox is built right into the foundation of Special Relativity. Self-referential proposition: time in definition of speed; speed in definition of time (the only way out of this is operator-time). Russell was essaying against self-reference at virtually the same instant Einstein was reconciling Newtonian gravity with Maxwellian light by means of self-reference: an inverted exorcism: removal of the divine, the standpoint established by absolute space and time. The very thing Prigogine fulminates to accomplish today in quantum theory by means of the probabilities themselves -- which Einstein rejected even in their softer Copenhagen incarnation. The number of conceptual devices that can be used to conceal Cabalistic identity transparency is enormous: all diverse contenders over the myriad conceptual devices are unified in opposition to fertility-rite animism, the only real issue. Around and around they go over meaning of the slit experiment! Is meaning in use? Is it exhausted after a single effort of verification? Blue books, red books, black books on deeeeeeep foundations. Only to have semantics in verifiability theory methodologically dispersed by incompleteness and undecideability! Get those damn Dadaists! And to be polite and not to cast ethnic aspersions, proper polite academic decorum requires that anything Cabalistic be referred to in mixed company as Platonism. It was not only Rosa Luxemburg and her comrades whom Germans and Hungarians back-reacted against in 1919! Given that the self-referential proposition is origin of Polish m-valued logics, it is hard to see how any actual quantum-gravity could exist independent of m-valued logics. This is the Jewish question, a question debated in myriad surrogates ever since Moses somehow managed to levitate tablets of stone down from her mount, so as to rule-regulate fertility-rite fornicators. How could this have had nothing to do with origins of the first two world wars? And given that m-valued logics are still not applied to quantum mechanics or General Relativity, how could this anti-Cabalistic intransigence have nothing to do with origins of the coming world war? Think about the psychology of it all and how that psychology has moved mass sentiment, both consciously and subliminally. Hermaphroditic self-reentrant identity transparency is a very scary thing, you know. So scary, it needs to be psychologically displaced in order that a final solution can be found. That takes we-are-the-world GUTs, etching the rules of all and everything onto the Central Dogma's genetic tablets, a final theory, the end of… science. And for Yahweh's sake don't tell the rabbi about m-logically-valued monetary units. Iffin ya don't wanna git smitted.
Mathematical proof -- as we have known it -- is Cantor dust in the solar wind, the galactic wind, the wind blowing into the face of God. This is not primarily because of Gödel incompleteness and undecideability. All these proofs, including Gödel's, have been conducted only under the 2-valued order of m-valued logics! What is that? One of the Old One's dyspeptic burps or a mere passing of cosmic gas. What could be more devastating, more deflating to ego inflation? That being the case, why would the pre-Vedic, animistic, tribal, identity-transparent ancients have deigned bother with it? They didn't. At least not until village populations topped 300 (according to present-day theory of archeologists striving to justify inevitable evolution of the modern Cartesian-Newtonian nation-state and its supraordinal agglomerations). Only when the required population control devices were brought down from high mountains shrouded in heavenly clouds did subjection to rules of logic begin. Only then was there need for finite numbers (the finite natural numbers demerging from transfinite notional aggregates). The potential infinite came from the actual infinite, even if it took well over 2,000 years for ancestors of the Levantine tribes and the archaicizing Greeks to remember that fact. Brahman is the Sanskrit word for the actual infinite. Under ontological-analytic and ontological-synthetic activity operator-time as Kala decomposes and recomposes Brahman, yet Brahman remains in its ground-state unmodified, unchanged. Only the continuum infinity is unmodified under the arithmetic operation of subtraction. The Universe does not demerge out of Brahman directly; but out of Pradhana, Purusa, and Kala: Brahman's cardinal constituency, limit-orderings, and ordinal operators. The Puranic writers, of course, were making the Vedas available to the masses in need of population control, not clarifying pre-Vedic thought for unfettered specialists. The actual infinite, with its m-valued all-perspectives-permissible logical conventions, is writ large across a broad swath of Indic literature. Don't believe it? Check out, for instance, Deussen writing for Cambridge U. Press in the pre-WWI period: Outline of the Vedanta System of Philosophy According to Sankara. Brahman as actual infinite is not to be confused with Sankara's disparagement of infinite regress in the logical march of an argument: Sankara came on the scene well after invocation of population control by logic. Only a decade after Deussen's discourse were Indians themselves writing books with titles like Advaita Vedanta and Modern Physics. Yet, up until this very day, we still are being told by the Western academic experts that notion of the actual infinite did not exist until created by Cantor. Created, mind you. This would not be Cantor's account, of course; but he was an unstable personality, so unstable, in fact, that he had seizures (actually, abreactions of autogenic brain discharges) every time a really new idea was created, which he maintained was no creation at all, rather something he had reached up into the sky and brought down from Heaven. The very gall of the man! You think we are not going to fight yet one more war to end all wars over this?
I'm almost sixty. I know a lot of people who have, basically, given up. They tried. And trying set them back. Having tried, and the world being unbendable, now, they feel, it's time to cover their butts. But when you look at what they tried, my God! no wonder they gave up.
Actually, I've never had any problem reading postmodernist writing. Having once taught black propaganda techniques at Psyops Group, Special Warfare Center, which means having studied the history thereof, I immediately recognized the repertoire. What the postmodernists said, the way the said it, made perfect sense to me. I just didn't agree with their assumptions, their techniques, and their conclusions.
As also suffered by a few other people I am aware of, I've always had a discrimination problem: military guns, political guns, economic guns, social guns are indistinguishably coercion to me.
Thanks for the two articles: an interesting juxtaposition, as you say. The piece on Pham Xuan An (The Spy Who Loved Us by Thomas A. Bass, The New Yorker, May 23, 2005) is in many respects laughable, for all its factual inaccuracies and hagiography -- inaccuracies relevant to content of the second equally humorous article (Rebel Iraqis breaking all the insurgent rules: Puzzling moves defy lessons of history by James Bennet, New York Times and International Herald Tribune, May 16, 2005). For instance, quoting Bass on page 62 with regard to the Vietnamese communist stay-behinds of 1954: By 1959, as many as eighty-five percent of these Vietminh fighters, numbering about sixty thousand, would be killed or arrested. This is not placed in quotes as being a statement directly made by An, but I don't know where this could have come from if not the statements made by An in conversations with Bass from which the piece was written. Sixty thousand is a figure out of nowhere. Consensus American intelligence assessment of this, repeated over and over historically, came largely from interviews conducted by Zasloff of the Rand Corporation. He estimated that, of approximately 100,000 repatriated to the North in 1954, about 90,000 were military. He did not arrive at a figure for those who stayed behind, but said the number was certainly substantially smaller than the 90,000. Figures bandied about in American intelligence channels during the late-1960s were in the 8,000 to 10,000 range. As discussed at length in MOON, I personally interviewed dozens of 1954 stay-behinds located in PW camps in the aftermath of Tet-'68. Many of these Zasloff had interviewed some years earlier; quite a few were picked up long after Zasloff completed his interviews and wrote up his Rand report. We in Strategic Research and Analysis, MACV-HQ, knew that, on general principles alone, these figures were impossible. Officially accepted VC tooth-to-tail ratio was held to be approximately the same as that of the U.S., officially in the realm of 1-to-5 but counting absolutely everybody closer to 1-to-10; whereas, for many, many reasons, the real VC tooth-to-tail ratio in all probability approached 1-to-30, varying a fair amount over the years with changing circumstances -- approximately 1-to-30 being the historical norm for successful insurgencies, as concluded by ORO (Operations Research Office) and SORO (Special Operations Research Office) during the late-50s and very early-60s (a figure I became aware of while at SORO in 1964). This was well understood at SRA, MACV-HQ, and though continually debated in details, was not a matter of controversy among SRA analysts. Anyone familiar with insurgent organizational requirements, or even merely with operational requirements of irregular warfare, as would be any special service operative, knows that an inverse tooth-to-tail ratio is implausible: An's sixty-thousand figure implies an inverse ratio. Most of the 10,000 non-military repatriated to the North in 1954, interviews revealed, were immediate family members of important political cadres who were physically relocated in the South during 1954, relocated into sleeper situations. Close family members staying in the South would have constituted unwarranted risk. 90,000 military repatriated to the North. So, on general principles alone, we knew Zasloff knew zilch, or that his estimates were being manipulated/dictated from above: the number of political infrastructure cadres had to be far more than the 90,000 military figure, not far less. Indeed, the number of political infrastructure cadres left in the South most likely was somewhere between 10 and 30 times the number of military repatriated to the North: just under one million to just under three million. Outside very high echelon party committee functional elements in the North, only cadre uniquely positioned within COSVN functional elements would have had the information access to have known the communist estimate of this figure (they themselves would not have been able to obtain an actual figure). No 1954 stay-behind identified in the GVN PW camp system came from such a category, and no captured document ever brought to my attention contained such a figure. By interviews and corroborating documents, both in considerable numbers, we knew province level and below, the whole Vietminh political apparat in the South was left to fade after 1954; inter-provincial level and above, it was kept intact and operational (except that COSVN-level cadres were reassigned to inter-provincial committees; COSVN being disbanded at the time and reconstituted as an organizational entity and echelon in 1961, an entity without an actual physical location, as it was myriad cells in constant motion spread out over tens of thousands of square kilometers of triple-canopy rain forest: hospitals and supply bunkers were not COSVN itself). Province party committees didn't start meeting regularly again until late-1957. As discussed in MOON, by interview and document, we were able to obtain figures for total membership of some province-level party committee subsections in the late-'57 to early-'58 period that strongly supported the contention that the number of political cadres who stayed in the South in 1954 was far greater than the 90,000 military who repatriated to the North. The reality of this was exceedingly more complex than is commonly believed. The lower echelons were left to fade after '54 primarily to purge those who would become security risks, concentration of these individuals being greatest at the lower echelons. Many who fought against the French had no commitment to communism, and it was anticipated that their allegiance would be severely tried and frequently lost during this period. So, who knows where the eighty-five percent figure came from for those Vietminh fighters (the political apparat cadres who remained as stay-behinds, were, for the most part, not armed combatants, or only rarely armed, as they were generally mixed amongst the civil population and being armed enormously increased risk of exposure: these guys and dolls were the decision makers, not the trigger pullers) who were killed or arrested by 1959? Many of those killed or arrested were exposed by the communist decision to allow the lower echelons to fade, those echelons filled with security risks and most easy to re-create at a later date. If this eighty-five percent is an accurate figure, which is doubtful, An very likely would not have been appraised of such information until well after the war was over. In the communist apparat, information compartmentalization was very elaborate and strictly adhered to, with the usual human snafus, oversights, willful transgressions, and so on. A lot of the kinds of communist information this article gives the impression An had access to while functioning as a spy, a spy working in An's capacity simply had no need to know. Ngo Vinh Long in 1988 interviewed a large number of political cadre who participated in planning and executing (not just target selection) the Tet-'68 Offensive. Long's article, printed in the Indochina Newsletter the same year the interviews were completed, to the informed reader, revealed that even 20 years after the event these cadres had not been able to put together the big picture -- so compartmentalized had the information been. I am inclined to believe that both figures, presumably provided by An and which I find implausible -- the 60,000 and eighty-five percent -- are part of the continuing effort by parties on all sides to keep from the public eye what actually transpired. There are many reasons why this multilateral enterprise of concealment remains important. For the communists, the 1954 purge was something of a repeat performance, a repeat of the denial of resources to Nam Bo (southern theater) in 1950, resources which became available at that time following success of the revolution in China. This denial of resources was blamed by many Southern cadres (stay-behinds in 1954) for defeat of the 1951 Tet Offensive on Saigon and cities across the Mekong delta. Following failure of the 1951 offensive, the Nam Bo Party Committee Chairman was purged, killed in fact. The Southern communist cadres were to be kept weak: ordered into an offensive they believed premature, and denied the necessary resources for success, they sustained massive losses from which they had not recovered when the 1954 purge was initiated. In late-1957, when organs of the party at the provincial echelon again began to meet regularly in the South, this was in defiance of the North and of the official line on peaceful co-existence coming out of the U.S.S.R. Not until 1959 were regular meetings being held at village and hamlet levels. It was only subsequent to kick off at the village and hamlet levels, after the first national civilian proseltizing convention, and following formation of the Southern Peoples' Revolutionary Party that COSVN was reconstituted by initiative of the North in an attempt to regain control over events transpiring in the South. Southern defiance and Northern reassertion of authority culminated in the purge of Southern Viet Cong cadres associated with the 1968 Tet Offensive. Postwar stultification was the result, until doi moi was initiated by remnants of the Southern apparat who had always been strong advocates of local autonomy and decentralized patterns of organization. The U.S., the Chinese, the Russians: all continue to have their reasons for concealment. One more cross for the human species to bear; many more such crosses and the species will no longer bear up.
During the synoptic organizational transformation facilitated by the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan, a holding action was fought, critical people moved abroad, and the lower echelons where the security risks were concentrated were left to fade. 9/11 had achieved its goal of forcing a global phase transition and anyone who came to be identified as a result, by definition, was no longer a critical actor but a useful diversion, tactical or strategic. All the real action hence forth would take place below the recognition horizon until the next organizational transformation was required. The short answer I would give as to why the Iraqi rebels appear to be breaking all the historical rules of insurgency warfare, as postulated in the Bennet article cited above, is that the war in Iraq, just like the war in Afghanistan, is not a war, but a battle; it is not necessary to follow the rules for the overall war at the level of any given battle. One just must learn to get one's mind to do scale-level shifts! Moreover, Islamic extremists are only one element in the gathering global insurgency against the very idea of the Cartesian-Newtonian-Westphalian nation-state system and its supraordinate agglomerations. Gangs, mafias, sects, drug cartels, cross-border economic migrants, new religion freaks, the extralegal sector, the burgeoning squatter hordes of third world mega-urban-region conurbation, eco-warriors, 5-star global monoculture refuseniks, pseudoscience global Neolithic culture animists, Velikovsky hangovers, degenerative disease insurgents, climate shift refugees, the waterless, the fuel-less, the foodless it's a long list. And this no-longer-incipient planetary insurgency is nested inside global warming, new European ice age, acid rain, carbolic acid oceans, pandemic species extinctions, 16-foot or 20-foot and/or adding to 36-foot sea-level rise collective clamor issuing out of very accurate predictions beginning in the late-60s and becoming quite vociferous by the late-70s to those exposed to the earth sciences of the period (then, and still, designated Off the Beat). Failing miracle drugs, cross-species pandemics, a wide swatch of autoimmune and immune competency diseases rising to epidemic proportions. Collapse in food quality, at least in the world's richest nations. Looming fossil fuel crisis as the long-predicted oil peak materializes. U.S. moves in Central Asia, Afghanistan, Iraq as steps toward showdown with China. One has to wonder just how close a read bin Laden and his superiors had on U.S. oil/China policy in formulating plans for its 9/11 entrapment operation. They were certainly well positioned for insight. And Newsweek informs us that not only bin Laden bought into the U.S. interpretation of the collapse of the U.S.S.R., so did the Chinese Communist Party. Melinda Liu and Jonathan Ansfield (Life of the Party, May 30, 2005, p. 16) quoting Zheng Bijian, head of the Party School's Development and Reform Forum:
The Soviet Union dug its own grave [by invading Afghanistan] in 1979, said Zheng, while that same year China began to reform and to criticize the mistakes Mao made in his later years. The CCP was founded on facts, not on ideology.
It is a fact, however, that spokespersons for the policy principals, in speaking for public consumption, almost never reveal the principles employed by those principals. Do you really believe that bin Laden and the CCP, whatever they might utter to the public forum or even in internal kiem thao policy documents, attribute collapse of the Soviet Union to the first Afghan war? Hardly that chuckleheaded! It's not as if the Islamic extremists are uneducated and unaware of the many dimensions of the total global situation going rapidly to cusp. The historical conjuncture has been well read and it is widely known that centralized orchestration is not required to tap the multifaceted recruitment base growing and diversifying daily -- indeed, attempts to centralize are thought counterproductive in many, many circles, not only those inclined to be violent. There are hotels in major cities all over the world delivering nearly a dozen Islamic TV channels chinked chuck full of news programs addressing in detail a wide spectrum of contemporary issues. This being informed can readily be seen in the assessments put out by many parties, not only as Al Qaeda statements are reported in the press. Also, I doubt accuracy of the as any intelligent person should know-type generalized observations offered at the beginning of Bennet's Iraqi rebels article as premises for the analytic conclusion that the insurgents are breaking the historical rules, particularly as given in the following quotation from the article:
Rather than employing the classic rebel tactic of provoking the foreign forces to use clumsy and excessive force and kill civilians, they are cutting out the middle man and killing civilians indiscriminately themselves
Most of the civilian (police recruits are nascent combatants) dead caused by the insurgents appear to be collateral damage; and my guess is that the collateral damage caused by the massive U.S. use of industrially-manufactured munitions is far greater than that caused by the insurgents' IEDs. Most of the U.S.-caused collateral damage seems likely to be in the Sunni areas, which is the primary recruitment base for the insurgents. Contrary to Bennet's claims, there has been a charismatic leader, recently reported to have been wounded; no insurgency attempts to amass territory to govern until the very end of the war (not any given battle). The necessity to govern territory is what cripples the counter-insurgent: the more territory and the longer the time, the more crippled. Declare open-ended global counter-insurgency war and the strategic variables called space and time are thereby deeded to the insurgents. I note that many articles over the last year have been employing strength estimate figures that do not historically compute (as explained above): 40,000 armed guerrillas and 80,000 active supporters. This historically non-computable 1-to-2 tooth-to-tail ratio implicit in the strength estimate figures given to the public may explain the reason for appearance of Bennet's N.Y. Times/IHT article on the insurgents breaking all the historically provided precedents: disinformation in what is likely a nascent enemy strength estimates controversy.
My guess is that a time will come when forced population relocations of the Sunnis will be touted as the final solution, as the Japanese tried in China, as in the Malaya Briggs Plan, as in Strategic Hamlets in Vietnam, as in Kenya Mau-Mau days. Have to break up the integrity of the Sunni Triangle so that the actual strength concentration (between 1-to-10 and 1-to-30) of the Iraqi rebels can be dispersed. No way to prevail against what the actual numbers surely are; therefore, must change the numbers in the only way possible: de-concentrate the Sunnis geographically. Bring in the Rome Plows and start creating a new jigsaw-puzzle boundary domain (as has been done elsewhere: Israelis-Palestinians and the Dayton Accords).
